Those who have seen the refrence sheet for the Diclonius cats (well rather, the artist's comments for it) would know of their leader, Ripper, and his most hated deed:

"Once in a blue moon, Ripper will wait for a cat to die, and kidnap its spirit before it can reach StarClan. He then takes the spirit down into his world, where he hands the poor cat over to his hellish zombie creations for them to torture it and entertain themselves. It is a cruel act, and the one that really makes cats hate Ripper and his kind."

Darkpaw and his mentor Len, as well as Swift paw and her mentor Mossfur (although Mossfur is Swift paw's mother, she's the only diclonius warrior in the Clan and the only cat able to be a good mentor for Swift paw) were out on a border patrol to show the two apprentices around the territory. It was while they were doing this that Mossfur and Swift paw suddenly stopped in their tracks and grew silent. Len and Darkpaw were very worried and concerned, but when a peaceful smile grew on Swift paw's face, Darkpaw relaxed a little. The 'spell' quickly broke, and Mossfur dismissed the moment as nothing and continued the patrol. However, Swift paw came beside Darkpaw to explain to him what happened. Because she's a diclonius, she knows when Ripper is making important decisions or actions. And she could feel him freeing all the lost spirits that he had ever enslaved.

It was actually talking to Rissa earlier that day (see the journal, MidnightClan Updates: 5th Edition) that made Ripper realize that not all he has done in his life is justified. He is slowly growing tired of being something cruel or evil, and shortly after he left Rissa to return to his world, he decided to free all the spirits that he had ever caught. It angered his little zombie minions immensely, but they were forced to say goodbye to their tortured toys.

Rissa's been more of an influence in Ripper's life than she knows.
