Description
The Jedi Temple Guard was a security force maintained by the Jedi Order and tasked with the protection of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, the capital planet of the Galactic Republic. An ancient and honored tradition in Jedi history, the Temple Guards were Jedi Knights pulled from the ranks to become anonymous sentinels as part of their lifelong commitment to the Order. Concealed within formal robes and a mask, the life of a guardsman was a higher calling that demanded absolute emotional detachment. Armed with lightsaber pikes—a double-bladed lightsaber that produced yellow plasma blades—, or similar hinged double-bladed lightsabers, the Guards served as part of the Jedi Temple's security force and reported to Jedi Master Cin Drallig, who headed the Temple's security detail.

Jedi Temple Guards wore formal brown robes and ivory masks with gold marks, a show of emotional detachment that was required in service to a higher calling. Temple Guards carried large double-bladed lightsaber pikes that produced yellow blades, which were rare among Jedi of the time.

During the Clone Wars, members of the Guards participated in the trial of the Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, who was framed for the bombing of the Jedi Temple Hangar. Four Jedi Temple Guards, along with Tano's Master, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, later escorted the actual culprit, the Jedi Barriss Offee, to Coruscant's Republic military base, where Offee confessed to the crimes, leading to Tano's exoneration. Later, some Temple Guards protected Jedi Master Yoda as he was recovering from a procedure done so that he could determine the source of a voice in his visions.

With the end of the Clone Wars, the fall of the Jedi Temple and the Galactic Empire's rise to power, one survived the Great Jedi Purge by pledging his allegiance to Emperor Palpatine, and joined the Inquisitorius—Jedi hunters trained in the ways of the dark side of the Force by the Emperor's Sith apprentice, Darth Vader. The former Guard was granted the title of Grand Inquisitor.
