Looks like your onto a great start. The thing about cosplay is that it takes practice just like anything else. You have to teach your eye what looks good and thing like that. Of course you also have to practice sewing and styling wigs and doing make up correctly, and then if you really hard core, how to work with fiberglass or metal to make armor. Also knowing what you should spend a lot of money on and what you can short change.
I'm working on a little "how to cosplay" presentation for next years Zenkaicon. I hope you make it!
