Oh dear, it's Nightmare Moon against Princess Celestia...and it looks like NM is winning.
One of the details that I really like is the lack of ethereal flow in Celestia's mame and tail.

Ouch, I can imagine the heartbreak and fear Princess Celestia is feeling when she realizes what's become of her sister. It had to be quite a shock, and I'm sure the riding crops of harmony were the last thing on her mind until she at least had a chance to talk to Luna/NMM. The stormy night outside the old castle or temple wall. (Architecture came a long way in the next millennium.) It was a horrible evening in every way.

Well I can probably guess that this was inspired by the season premiere today and I have to say that this is quite impressive! First of all I am really loving the character designs on this as well as the way that you integrated them into the gorgeous atmosphere that you created. It as if you can look at this piece and feel the night! I also love the cools colors and how extremely well they coexist with the lovely lighting and shading! They both add so much depth and the intensity created by this piece is breathtaking! This is a truly incredible piece and I would love to see much more! Great work! Kind regards, Princess Luna

Love the dark tone and sombre atmosphere. Crestfallen Celestia really speaks a lot in regards to her body language and the usage of the oppressive shadows at her back. And I see that single tear; makes my heart ache. Nightmare looks rather simple but that may just be because of her distance from the focal point of the image. Her aggressive stance and dusky features give her a very imposing appearance though; very fitting for the scene. I'm also really drawn to the way you made their manes sparkle so vibrantly, even with the tone being so dark. It creates a very, well, magical appearance and helps to highlight all the flowing, sweeping curls, giving Celestia an essence of majesty even in her fallen form and Nightmare a dynamic, charged feel, as though she's simply boiling over with power and rage. Altogether, a very powerful scene.

Oh, I love your interpretation of this encounter. And the lighting on Celestia's great - as are the stars in her mane and tail.
At first I thought that the left side of the picture was a bit empty, perhaps calling for more ominous clouds and lightning and all that sort of thing, but looking at it now I think the picture's actually showing a moment of deceptive quiet - the eye of the storm, the moment where the world seems to stand still before all hell breaks loose. So it actually works out very well this way.
