Description

Fae are somewhat confusing beings-- on top of their surreal use of magic and the twists and turns they do on both physics and reality, their main creed can be hard to follow to an outsider. Fae believe that the only true way to be is free from the rules and laws of others, but in contrast to this they seem to rally and support a variety of Fae lords who vie for power amongst one another. Fae do still hold true to their core belief, and any Fae lord who would challenge this wouldn't be considered a true lord. The followers of Fae lords are all followers freely, often believing in the great change their chosen lord wishes to bring. If a Fae ever has to leave their lord's side or if they feel fulfilled in their service, they'll return to their normal life. One of the major events that challenged this value was back in the age of myths and legends, when some Fae lords felt entitled to Hiraeth, and wished to hold dominion over what they saw as lesser folk. Though many Fae lords marched out of greed, many also marched in opposition, as well, one of these Fae lords being Basil, Duke of the City of Statues.

Basil is a controversial figure among Fae, always looking for great upheavals within the realm. Currently he wishes to seal away all the Fae lords to end their squabbles, including the Sun King, who keeps the eternal winter away from the Fae Realm, always lurking out of sight and out of mind. Duke Basil's lethal edge is his eyes, which can turn any soul into stone. Often he disguises himself as a beautiful youth with his eyes bound by linen, but his true form is monstrous and monolithic. A glimpse of this form can be seen in Basil's Crown, a lost artifact from his time defending Hiraeth. Laying somewhere in Hiraeth's vast wilderness, a few adventurers have spoken of the stone helmet, too heavy and huge to lift. Objects touched or made by Fae that are left alone for many years become enchanted and jump to life, and the same is said to have happened to the Basil's Crown, as it slowly drags itself through the soil, taking in the environment and singing along with the birds. Though it slides about slowly, it gains a great distance after a few days, so it's hard for anyone to truly pinpoint they place where it was discarded, but it is believed to be somewhere in the north western wilds. The few that have found the historical marvel have spoken of a strange critter who lives inside, trapped by the helmet's visor, but no one has ever gotten a good look as to what it is.

Basil's Crown appearance conveys its nature just fine: details like its "ears" or how the visor opens resembling a mouth help the helmet look half-way between organic and artificial, fittingly enough for an artifact animated by magic.

And the Crown's tiny inhabitant raises many questions, though I find the most interesting is:
How did it manage to get in there?

Cool cool! I'm really happy to hear that! c:

That is question that remains unsolved, since the helmet is hard enough to locate, and anyone interested in finding out doesn't have the strength to lift it up. Hopefully one day we'll get a clue. c:
