In the final deal that ended the First Interstellar War, Earth was made to cede control over the world of Dominion, its largest and most promising colony. It was not long after Dominion gained independence that its central government collapsed. In the years following, numerous territories and fiefdoms were formed, each pursuing their own goals.

New Mantua was one such territory, representing the largest city west of the Narrow Sea. Lacking significant manufacturing capacity, its military continued to use the leftover Earth Union equipment. By the second interstellar war, supplies of this hardware were starting to dwindle, and a mix of smuggled weapons and locally refurbished armor had become prominent.
