Description hooray for malamutes ^o^ I have never done on before so it was time to do so ;3 the lines were sitting on my pc for quite a long time and cuz the weather is sooo bad here atm I decided NOT to go out and finish it xD

Edit: yeeees, I KNOW, malamutes have brown eyes only but I found blue more suitable for him-name it artistic freedom if you like xD

I have QUESTIONS! What size was the original? (I've been trying to find a good size 'canvas' for painting fur and always seem to make it too big or two small) and also, what ps brush do you use? Lol you don't have to answer my questions if you don't want to, but it'd be a great big help to me The main thing I noticed about this (and the reason I asked all those questions) was because of the fine-ness of the fur. You can see every strand where every strand would normally be seen on a dog, and I especially love the fur around the eyes, how you have the little black furs in there. It gives the image a lot of depth And the eyes are so adorable, I could eat them c: All in all you've done a TERRIFIC job, you are certainly improving with every picture <333

lol, of cause I will answer your questions, I am ever so happy to help^^
well, I normally use 1600x1200 pixel, I think that size is fine ;3 for brushes I use the hard and the soft airbrush about size 9-10 for blocking in the main colours *with opacity set to 60-70% and always set my flow to 85'ish* then I use both of the airbrushes at size 4 to 5 for first details. Size 3 for refining and a 2px hard brush for the final detalils *as well as for darker hair inbetween^^ tho those are added before the final details are painted ;3* I also play a lot with multiply and colour-dodge layers, especially for the eyes I never work with opacity set to 100%, the highest in my paintings is 90 for highlights^^ and I add every layer of fur on an extra layer so the opacity of the whole layer can be adjusted if neccessary (I so often get the bloody colours wrong D= ) Hope that helped a little^^
Thank you so very much for the kind words

Oh thanks for that! I work in a very similar way, though sometimes (if I want to be lazy) I'll roughly paint in the colours with high opacity and then put a 'box blur' over it (or, for lower versions of ps, gaussian blur would work fine too). It kinda makes it look like a badly blurred photo lol, and then I paint the strands of fur over it. Other times I just blend the base colours using low opacity, or I'll smudge them together xD Anyway the blurring technique is quite fun to play with if you ever want to give it a go The little box in the layers panel where you can play with multiply and colour-dodge etc is genius I think! I use it ALL the time, it can really add wonders to the picture Have you ever tried putting a bit of noise over the image, to make it seem more like a photo? I tend not to do this but I see a lot of hyper-realistic artists use that technique

One more question! XD just out of curiosity, what kind of tablet do you have? Oh and you're very welcome!!

cottondragon In reply to mondeis [2009-07-18 22:42:47 +0000 UTC]

awh you are welcome^^ I have to try the blurry way once, sounds pretty much fun ^o^ lol, I always play around my layers too, always squeeking like a little pig if something awesome happened xD noise, where do I find that exactly oo"?? ah I think it is "rauschen" in german, the layer that adds little dots, isn't it oo"?! gotto try that too, muaha ^o^
I bought myself an intuos 3 in march *I love it so much <333* before I had a little bamboo-that sucked in somehow ._." you are lucky, aren't you, you have the intuos 4 I read ;3 is it good? how much did you pay?! they are so terribly expensive =;___;=

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mondeis In reply to cottondragon [2009-07-18 22:54:56 +0000 UTC]

Lol yes it is pretty fun You should be able to find noise in 'Filters' (not sure what that is in German), it's not hard to find though If adding noise, save your image as a jpg first and duplicate the layer, so when you add noise you can blur it or play with the opacity of the layer. Also, if you click the box 'Monochromatic' (I think that's what it says) the noise becomes black and white and not colour. Sorry I can't explain it better xD
I had a bamboo fun that I bought only a few months ago, but I needed something better so I did get an Intuos4, mine is a big 8x13 and it cost me AU$750 but you can get smaller ones for much cheaper. With that said, I was comparing them to an Intuos3 and I couldn't see much of a difference, I could be wrong though, I've never used an intuos3

cottondragon In reply to mondeis [2009-07-18 23:12:55 +0000 UTC]

haaah I found it ^o^ I am sure, one can do pretty much things with it, MUST try it on backgrounds <333 thankies for the tips
uuuh that is a lot of money tho I paid about 500$ for the inuos too-being medium size *it was reduced a lot-because the box was damaged-who cares about the BOX??? haha^^* The intuos4 is more preasure-sensitive I think and has some little extra features ;3 I neeeed one =^;^=
