I don't remember exactly for that one; but for a lot of my effects I make the patterns (I use PS), but using brushes that I make and then use the halftone pattern effect in PS. For some others I just find them on the internet, DA has a lot of places with tones.

Manga style really isn't hard, its like, designed to speed up the comic making process, once you get started you'll be surprised to see how fast it is.
the funny thing, is that unlike most artists I really love drawing backgrounds. The time I spent on this last page is embarrassingly large. But thanks for the feedback, I'm glad to hear you think its good.
