It's been a while but slowly but surely getting the hang of the new work station. Also real life caught up with me. That being said I have still a lot of ideas for Star trek and others. That being said I am posting my first real try out of a Babylon 5 frigate style ship for the Earth Alliance / Earth Force. The thought is, compared to the larger Omega class destroyers... and to an extend the older Hyperion class, that these ships are more modern then the latter and much smaller then the Omega's. Making it more easier to produce and more useful in roles that do not require the power projection of a large ship like the Omega class destroyer.

History:

Seeing the need for an easy to produce, multirole capable capital ship the Earth Force send out a bid for a new frigate sized ship.
It stipulated that the ship needed to be capable of deep space missions, fleet operations, anti piracy missions and regular deep space patrol duties. Of several designs submitted the Manticore Class (as it would be known) would be selected as it used already available design architecture and machinery making it easy to quickly produce at the available ship construction sites scattered in Earth controlled space. Something that was urgently needed after the chaos of the Earth Civil War and the losses Earth Force had taken.

Like the Omega class destroyer the front of the ship houses its main heavy weapons as well as a small launch bay for its flight wing. Also similar is the rotating section which provides artificial gravity whilst the aft section houses the remaining weapons systems and main drive.

Technical:

The Manticore frigate itself carries a small half wing (2 Starfury fighters) and single shuttle and comes equipped with a lighter yet potent arsenal of offensive and defensive weaponry. 4x400 mm pulse cannon turrets (middle section), 2 plasma pulse cannons at the rear and 2 frontal axis firing laser batteries. It also sports missile launch tubes (10x) as seen used by most EA military vessels.
