Description The German frigate F218 FGS Mecklenburg-Vorpommern makes a turn to portΒ in Plymouth Sound as she heads for her berth in Devonport Dockyard. Fort Bovisand lies astern. I would not like to be a Yeoman of Signals on this ship - how long would it take to send a signal?! They must abbreviate it, surely. September 1, 2016.

Note the heat haze from the uptakes.

God yes! I went over with a mate for the steam in '74 and we went into a German pub. I said to the guy behind the bar "zwei Bier bitte" - and he started putting out all these glasses. I thought bloody hell, did I ask for two or twenty?! But he just poured off the froth into the others.

I wonder who came up with the name of the ship? Were they being intentionally cruel to signallers?

I tried to find out if there were any previous ships of that name but I only found Pommern which was a battleship sunk at Jutland.Β  I think there may have been a sailing ship of that name too. Where the Mecklenburg part came from I don't know. Perhaps a German ship enthusiast can enlighten us!

Nice shot indeed.
Do tell why they would take a long time to send a signal?

To all units - this is M-E-C-K-L-E-N-B-U-R-G-P-O-M-M-E-R-N. Sorry Captain, all the other ships have gone!

Signalling the really loooooong name part would be likely very time-consuming.

Oh right! Yeah, they must have used a call sign or something.
