Irrespective of colours, the HST remains one of my favourite diesels. (never quite sure whether it's more of a DMU or 2 locos either end of a rake of coaches)

Greeted with scorn initially, they have turned into an icon!

My Mum's reaction on hearing the braking distance from 125mph was that they were clearly going too fast if they needed quarter of a mile to stop.
More informed opinion said that the new coach stock had put the air con intakes in the wrong place because you got a smell of brake linings during an initial brake from speed.
Alternatively, there was the almost gleeful way that AS Nock documented both being on the service that set the record for the highest speed ever on conventional all services permanent way (which I think still stands?) and the unofficial Western Region "140 club".

Mums are great!
The Western still rebels from time to time (remember 90 withΒ a 9?) !!

Oh yes, even when they're talking nonsense. I mean, to even be allowed to do 125mph on Western you need to have sightlines out over a mile.
Nope; I've always been more interested in types that at least sometimes appear in Scotland and the HST has operated services out of Glasgow Queen Street, down the ECML to York, then trans-Pennine to Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and on into the SW.
The WCML was electrified in the late 1960s and early '70s so the 90 never hauled anything I'd see unless I went over to Waverley.

Haven't been to Waverley since the 1970s!

I've always been an "occasional visitor" to Waverley, and then usually visiting Edinburgh, and there's a quarter or half hourly service from there to Glasgow so not much time for spotting unless you want to make time after spending a day playing tourist or shopping.

... I'm beginning to wonder now: did the council choose the allotment for Mrs Brit; did Mrs Brit choose it herself... or did you choose it for her? XD

Lovely Machines, the HST's. I dare say they are one of the oldest classes of locomotive still in use in the UK.
