Maybe a silly question, but have you ever seen "The Sea Shall Not Have them"?

I recently bought the DVD, and I always think of the film when I see a Shagbat or a whaleback.

It's well worth having, partly as a memorial to the early ASR crews and partly for lots of detail shots of Shagbat and whalebacks.

Yes I remember the ASR launches being at Mountbatten when I was a lad.

Back when I was a lad there were several old ASR launches and MTBs used as houseboats in a harbour near me; sadly the hulls have all rotted out since due to lack of maintenance.

Thanks Daniel - not the prettiest of aircraft but functional! Carried by many major warships for spotting duties until more carriers were built.
