Description

In TDI, Trent looked to be a mellow, level-headed guy that looked to have a normal happy life. But contrary to belief, he suffered a lot. He was born to relatively young parents, or to put it bluntly, he was unplanned. His parents were young and were still in the last stages of finishing college. His father was achieved in earning a double major in Accounting and Law and was in his last year of law school while his mom was a part-time administrative assistant while finishing her last semester in pursuing a bachelor’s in Business Administration. So, while his parents were away his grandparents (on the mother’s side) were there to take care of him during the day until Trent reached that age of 2 where both parents would be done with their education.

Years later in his early childhood, Trent couldn’t help but notice the lack of genuine romantic connection between his parents in comparison to his grandparents, who were utterly inseparable. In addition to being totally in love, they were very heathy and energetic for their ages.

Trent loved his grandma very much but had an unbreakable bond with his grandpa. His grandparents always took Trent places for fun. Music festivals, concerts, the zoo, movies, etc. One of Trent’s vivid memories was getting a toy train from a toy emporium. He was excited to get one because of his grandpa’s famous motto. “I’m a train running on 9 wheels. It may be a little bumpy, but I still riding!”

As mentioned before, Trent’s grandparents were very healthy. So, the sudden death of Trent’s grandpa took a major toll on him and his family. And though he never mentioned it out loud, Trent was the one that found his grandfather deceased. Paramedics carried him away on a stretcher and the sight ruptured Trent’s psyche. Although, being a little kid, he didn’t have the mental capacity to really deal with the fact that he was gone, so he kept convincing himself that grandpa would come back.

Then, there was the funeral. It held a very crestfallen atmosphere and every person, whether it was friends or family, was mourning. While Trent cried, he held on to his toy train and wondered if things will ever be the same again. It was at that very moment one of the wheels fell off and young Trent believed that incident was his grandfather trying to console him beyond the grave. Trent told his mom what happened, and she told him that 9 was his lucky number. Thus, Trent counting to “9” was coping mechanism to calm himself down when things gave him anxiety.

His mother took it exorbitantly hard. As did Trent’s grandmother. Her distance became greater and greater as the years went by. His father felt powerless. He worked hard forthe family to put bread on the table while being a loving husband. No matter what he did, he could never bring the light back in her eyes. They only stayed together for the sake of Trent. Despite that notion, his mother was supportive of him and his dreams of pursuing music while is father appeared to be but in actuality, he was insincere about it. You could say that Trent’s mother felt the way she felt because she secretly yearned to an adventurous career but could not pursue it since she had the responsibility of being a mother.

In Trent’s tween years, Trent had a habit of counting to 9 regularly, thus people ostracized him and laughed at him not knowing what OCD was. He began to conceal his habits in effort to not worry his parents and fix his tarnished reputation. He was a decent guitar and singer and slowly began to become popular with the ladies in school. In between classes he would strum the guitar. He had dates here and there but none of them were enough to shake him to his core.

That was until Trent was drawn to a mysterious, shy girl and wanted to get to know her. Sadly, he but was to apprehensive to approach her as Trent was much shyer in his tween years. But fortunately, Trent and she formed a bond with each other and became best friends. They stuck together from thick to thin and got closer overtime.

Alas, the girl was swept away by a brooding bad boy that transferred into the school out of nowhere. It wasn’t long until they became an item. Trent was devastated and had his first heartbreak. At that moment, Trent experienced his first heartbreak. He found in himself to be happy for her and not meddle into her life.

To make matters worse, he woke up one day to find that his mother had left for good. He and his father were shocked and confused. His father explained that things were not working with them, but he did not see it coming. Trent’s father eventually made contact with Trent’s mother and things went for a turn for the worse when they both agreed to divorce. This was so much for Trent to handle, but even he still wanted to hold on to hope given his optimistic and hopeless romantic attitude. He hoped that they would find a way back to each other one day. But,as you can imagine, the grip wasn’t very strong. His father was practically numb. His whole demeanor turned sour and he was pessimistic from then on. Trent wanted to do whatever he could to console his father, so he took on responsibilities around the house. He was so preoccupied with them that he spent less time progressing in his music skills and finding himself as artist. But, luck would have it that Total Drama Island was a competition that can make things change. Trent can use his own skills that he accommodated over the years along with playing his music (if he mustered up the courage to do so). If he won that would help him pay off the last bit of his Dad’s student loan debt along with other debts that he owed.

Trent meets Gwen, a kind of girl that he has never met before and was awe-stricken by her unique appearance. They slowly hit off even though they were different. But there were times when they found that they were alike as well. Trent was secretly still on the fence on whether or not Gwen was truly into him considering he never thought in his wildest dreams that a girl like her would fall for him. That, with an addition to his past heartbreaks, prompted him to make misguided decisions, like falling for Heather’s trick. But when he realized that he was wrong for what he did, he did what he could to make it up to her.

After Owen’s win, him and Gwen were doing great. They rejoiced in the unusual hilarity that came from the other campers and gazed at the stars every night.

At this time, things were finally turning for the better. Even though he lost the competition,he’s spending time with the girl he loved. A selection of campers were invited to compete in Total Drama Action, including him and Gwen. This was great news. He’d spend more time with Gwen and have another chance of winning an even larger money prize. In the beginning of the show, Trent noticed that Gwen and Duncan were getting along. Ordinarily, most guys would write it up as a non-threatening situation, but to Trent, it was history repeating itself. Not to mention that early August was the anniversary the news of his parents’divorce. His grandfather’s death, the school bullying, divorce, and his first heartbreak slowly plagued his mind. But so long as Gwen was by his side, things would be good. But Gwen was put on the other team, and to rub salt in his reopened wounds, she chooses Duncan to be on his team. Petty and unnecessary jealousy erupted inside him from then on and every other moment of watching them from afar, along with Duncan’s not-so-subtle jabs gave him severe anxiety, paranoia, and an incredibly naïve mindset. He ignorantly takes advice from Owen and agrees that throwing challenges would be a way to lure Gwen back. This plan backfires, and Gwen decides to end things after seeing these events occur. There and then, he was heartbroken and broken up with on national television. He felt like the lowest of the low.

Then came the aftermath show, Trent learned the news of Gwen’s doings and explains his side of the story. He conveniently left out the part about his parents’ divorce of course. He thought it would be uncool to air out his parent’s dirty laundry on national TV. But things worked out in a way, and Gwen and Trent are in adecent place after everything. Additionally, Trent enjoys the immense female attention.

After TDA, he becomes part of Drama Brothers. Trent finally gets his big break. The fame goesto his head, he temporarily loses his gentleman-like nature, and treated girls like toys. This phase ends quickly when the group breaks up.

In TDWT, he is not part of the show. In this time, he is secretly working on more music, enjoying the lingering female attention, and enjoys the summer being in the aftermath. But, he finds out about Gwuncan becoming a thing and is somehow flabbergasted and not surprised at the same time. His greatest fear became a reality. Things were awkward with Gwen when she was voted off and joined him and the others, but fortunately it passed once they seemed to agree to be friendly.

In TDROTI, Trent was seen to be in a polyamorous relationship with Katie and Sadie. But it seems that he disappeared out of the limelight after that. He is rumored to be working on himself through therapy, working really hard on his own album, and writing and producing songs for other artists.

People tend to gloss over Trent’s existence and write him up as a throw-way character. Which is fine, we all have opinions. But I believe that Trent is bigger than people make him out to be.
