Description
Arthur Fleck was a struggling stand-up comedian who was publicly humiliated after one of his performances went viral causing the host of Gotham's late night talk show, David Murray, to make fun of him. Angered by the current state of his life and having struggled with mental illness for a long time, Arthur finally snapped and decided to get revenge on those who had wronged him by going on a killing spree. Inspired by the late Joker's tactics of high theatrics and brutal torture Arthur began livestreaming his crimes, as The New Joker making his way to The Late-Night Show where he executed David Murray on live tv. Then having amassed a large following of very angry people who were also mad at the world in which they lived in, led an uprising against Gotham's elites who refused to do anything to help them. This was of course stopped by Batman with the help of the GCPD and Arthur was sent to Arkham where he watched as James Gordon was praised for his heroics during the riots. With the help of his followers, Arthur managed to escape from Arkham and devised a plan to destroy James Gordon. First, he shot Barabra Gordon, permanently paralyzing her from the waist down. Then he kidnapped Sarah and Jimmy Gordon, torturing them and mutilating Jimmy's face. Finally, he blew up the GCPD, killing hundreds of cops. And made Gordon watch all of it as it was happening. The final part of his plan involved Batman coming to rescue Gordon, during their fight Arthur tricked Batman into pushing him to his death, secretly livestreaming the whole thing. In the aftermath of Arthur's carnage, the Gordon family was broken, and Batman was ostracized by the people of Gotham causing him to go on hiatus.

So, Arthur is the second Joker inspired by Joquin Phoenix and Heath Ledger's jokers. Thematically he's a nihilistic, psychopath who wants to prove to the world that nothing matters. He uses his persona as the Joker to create an online presence for himself uploading videos to YouTube and doing livestreams. His specialty is psychological torture, often times he'll torture his victims but leave them alive to suffer. However, he does not hesitate to kill those he views as "scum of the Earth". His relationship with Batman is different from the other Jokers because it is Batman's obsession with him that drives their rivalry. Arthur could care less about Batman and sees him only as an obstacle in the way of his true goals. However, once he discovers that Batman is Bruce Wayne, he is angered by the fact that Bruce would rather dress up as a bat then use his wealth to make real change.
Visually I was inspired by Tim Drake from Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker as well as The Joker from Batman: Endgame. I wanted him to have an all-black look and added details inspired by Edward Scissorhands, and I based his face on The Mystery Man from Lost Highway. His makeup is inspired by Joquin Phoenix's make-up. I gave him The Comedian's button from Watchmen as I felt it fit him thematically and also gave him a little pop of color. His weapon of choice is a straight razor which he uses to give people Glasglow smiles. And he is holding an old video camera which he uses to record his crimes and send them to Batman and the GCPD.
