The perfect figure for a belly dancer! She has incredible grace and cuteness too.

No, no they usually do not have an excess of obese fat. Belly dancers are generally known in the middle east as it was created in Egypt as most evidence and history of belly dancing is found there and in other cultures influenced by the middle east. Belly dancing was made more popular by romanticist in the 18th and 19th centuries because of harem lifeΒ in the ottoman empire that were introduced to the west. A proper and accurate depiction of a belly dancer is not obese.Β
1. There is a difference between having curves and some chub which honestly, some belly dancers do have in order to give a better illusion of a snake like waist in the dancing movement. A gut hanging over your crotch is not a belly its a health hazard LONG TERM.Β
2. YOU HAVE TO BE FLEXIBLE. You are literally complexly moving your torso, it is a weigh bearing activity, and depends on strength.Β
3. 20 extra pounds to fill out a female form to fit the middle eastern woman aesthetic and portray a traditional belly dancer does not = grossly ( as in massively and dramatically ) obese belly dancer. That's not dancing. It would be swaying because at an obese size ^^^ Such as the impossible image above, mobility is way too restricted, chronic pain would set in from carrying so much weight, and the natural curves of the body are obscured which contradicts the whole idea of belly dancing.Β
I am giving no hate, only facts. Please do not push normalizing unhealthy body standards ( no matter what is causing the weight gain, its still not healthy) onto an ancient dancing style.Β
DeviantArt, my god, can we not have this on the front page? It's all fetish art. It's not body positivity.Β

finding big girls appealing has nothing to do with thinking they're healthy. that's like saying finding big tits appealing is normalizing back pain. it's obviously no disrespect to bellydancing regardless. it's a friggin cartoon. it's allowed to be a bit unrealistic

^ I am referring to the comment above me claiming that belly dancers DO have larger bellies normally.Β
As I said in the bottom, I was there to correct the notion that an ancient practice involved something false
and misleading. It's just cringey to defend obesity with a dance style that has no appeal to being obese asΒ
that would make the dancing style nearly impossible.Β
Im not slamming any fetishes at all! :^) I just think anything remotely sexual or being portrayed in a way even hinting
fetishization of anything, does not need to be on the front page. Sure parents should monitor their kids but for the 12 year
olds on this site, can stuff like this (and many other things) not be on the front page? I thought DeviantArt was supposed
to put great art on the front page not fetish pieces. Just post it on a reddit thread or Phub?Β

Dude, I donβt want to argue with you, but, lol, DeviantArt is the place that is known throughout the Internet as "that site with a bunch of creep fetish pictures," ask anyone about this and you will hear exactly that~
Moreover, everything is pretty harmless here, I just do some cartoon-looking characters, nothing criminal here
Half of my entire gallery is no different from what you could have seen as a child in a classic cartoon like "Looney Tunes" and you would not be shocked ~

Of course. I'm not talking art quality or skill. I'm talking over all concept. Fetish art = real art but not exactly something you want to market on the front page of your website unless you're a P*rn site.

i dont see how this being smut invalidates it as good art. plenty of historically significant art has been much more pornographic than this lol. you're not in any position to dictate what belongs on the front page of dA anyway. it's on there because people like it and they have every right to be able to enjoy it. if you're not trying to slam fetishes, you're gonna have to learn to tolerate us lol

Fetish art = real art, but not exactly something you want to market on the front page of your website unless you're a P*rn site. I can tolerate it just fine until it becomes advertised on the front page. There should be some kind of mature tag. There are kids here on this site. I dont believe in ever 100% censoring content but to an extent.
Sorry if I initially came off rude. I got exposed to p*rn at 8 years old and it F'd me up for a while. I just cant stand seeing anything even hinting something sexual on the front page of a site kids could be on. I shouldn't have commented anything but instead done something if I didnt like it. I'm in the wrong and have no intentions of shaming you or your interests.

The point isn't to jiggle? It's about torso movement in a complex pattern to create optical illusions with veils and jewelry. If you want to see jiggling then google twerking or something.Β

By the way, regarding your discussion about belly dancing
You know, you're right, and I totally agree with you on this, because such arguments as "uh, well, she should shake something and therefore she is fat" look pretty helpless here
The point is simply that it is not subject to logic from the very beginning, some people like fat people not because they can wear things that are not intended for them or feel free from their weight, but simply because they are thick. That's all, there is no high purpose or important social commentary here, itβs just an incredible strange picture that was originally intended only to satisfy someoneβs fetish, yea, sad but true
