Description
This is the Daisenryaku II Campaign Version unit editor. The small image at top left is the map icon (F2). Here we see drawing mode (F1) for editing the battle animation. Yes, crude is the operative word, but such were the tools provided in 1990. Further compounding the artist's challenge, although the standard drawing window is 96x32, anything wider than 54 boxes creates an ugly effect where the full company or squadron complement of sub-units (10) begin to overlap each other in a most unsightly way. I have no idea what SystemSoftAlpha was thinking there. I hated this about the game, so I've either capped the widths at 54 boxes or changed the views to a 3/4 profile.
The game allows up to four factions per map: Blue, Red, Green and Yellow. These colors fill the light gray boxes in-game.
The window at upper right is where the player can adjust all the unit parameters such as category, speed, fuel supply, price, defensive ratings, weapons loadout, etc. The first thing I did was change all the countries, weapon types and unit names to English. Of course all the menus and commands remain in Japanese but the game is quite easy to play once you memorize the essentials.
