Description
Something I've refused to accept until recently is the impact Thetis's character has made on me. Yeah, I know, I draw him a lot, but now I think it's safe to say that I'm beginning to understand why.
Somehow this kid made me grow more aware of what's happening to the world and how it's slowly being destroyed. I've gotten way more interested in researching marine animals, nautical terms, etc. and eating seafood after I got into ZXA. I'll go as far as to say I get nervous tics when I see trash on the ground but no trash cans in sight. Until I see a trash can, I just stuff my scraps in my pockets.
It's true that Thetis's ways of "cleaning the Earth" were completely wrong, but I gotta say, his actions got me thinking. There's something happening in the world that many people have been overlooking, and I'm sad to say I wish I'd paid attention to it more.
But I dunno. At this point I'm just ranting and shooting out random ideas. Take it as you will.
Thetis, drawn in Autodesk: Sketchbook and edited in Enlight for iOS. This has to be one of the most relaxing pieces I've ever made, and I'm glad I was finally able to make a fully polished piece.
(Update 6-15-17): What I failed to mention in the description was that Thetis's dedication to protect the seas was from a childhood wonder. However, because of the Game of Destiny and the Model W, his views were corrupted and that sort of childlike interest was lost. It's just sad to me... He had good intentions, but his plans were corrupted.
That's pretty much the point I wanted to make in this, how his childhood gave him a sense of justice, but the result of his plan was destruction. His sense of wonder has greatly inspired me, and I think following it while avoiding the path of violence can work for the better of all.
I'm planning to make more ZX illustrations that touch upon the Model W and its side-effects. As shown with Thetis and the other members of the Big Four, letting your personal intentions get in the way of the good of others can be devastating to everyone and even yourself.

There is no way I which I wouldn't comment here. Definitively think EXACTLY the same, in fact, when I read your lines I was so surprised that somebody thinks the same way as I do. Thetis is definitevely my favorite of the Four (Then there's Aeolus on 2nd place.), it has total noble mission, it's methods were not the best, but it reminds me a lot of the Dan Brown's novel Inferno: Mankind is too much for a little planet, we're running out of place, resources, life. At the same time is a bit like what Thanos says in Avengers: Infinity War.
I remember when I had 11, playing ZXA all exited bcs I just discovered how to put roms on my DS and "there's a ZX sequel OMG!" In ZX my favorite area was Area-F, I just loved it so much, the music was my favorite, and since always I loved Auroras, so when I saw it there I just loved it so much, I remember to put my headphones and just hear the song.
Then, I played ZXA all happy till I saw what happened to Area F. And how it became the Area in which we fight against Vulturon, a dump, full of trash. No snow, no lake, no aurora. That totally striked me so hard that I never forgot it, that is when I undestanded Thetis. That is when he became my favorite.

Oh geez, I forgot that the Scrapyard from ZXA used to be Area F... That makes that location even more tragic than before. I love the music in Area F too (it helped me calm down when I had to redo that stage like a hundred times as Vent in Hard Mode, ouch).
I honestly became more aware of Thetis after playing ZXA when I was just searching the web for some fanfics to read. Then I came upon this entire RP blog about Thetis and ooh boy...
It's been more than a year since I drew this, and I haven't been drawing Thetis much at all. But I will say, thanks for reminding me of him and all the stuff ZX/A teaches about this topic. ZX/A has a special place in my heart.

That's beautiful, and I'm glad you think that way. I'll let Redder know about this comment. Oh, and I looked at some of your art. It's really, really nice. It's too realistic for my preference, but it is amazing nonetheless.

Oh! Wonderful! I would say thanks back, but I don't think that's quite how the gesture works... Jeez, I reply really late to comments.

tfghdhshdhjs I love this comment for some reason, thankyousomuch! And also for bothering to comment on this anyway even after 2 weeks.
Though if you want something a bit deeper regarding Thetis's motives... Who would you care for the most? Your friends and family, or the Earth? That question's been bothering me for a while, too...

Aw, shucks! I'm glad you like it. I'm just sorry it took me so long to comment...I get sidetracked waaaaay too easily.
As for that question, it's quite a doozy! Ideally (and realistically, I'd say) you wouldn't ever have to make that decision. However...I think friends and family are more important. It's a hard call - considering the fact that we depend on the planet to survive - but the Earth is not a rational creature like humans are, and is much more capable of caring for itself. It's designed to function on its own, while we aren't.
Of course, it is probable that humans mess things up faster than the Earth can balance itself out. But I'm sticking to my answer, and here's why: by investing time and love into other people, we can more effectively motivate them to care for the planet as well. Opinions/convictions have a lot more impact on those who respect you, value you, and enjoy your company than on those in whom you've invested little. And the more people motivated to care about the planet, the better cared for it is.
I've got another answer, but it has more of a religious slant, so I'll leave it at that for now. Your prompt has been quite thought-provoking!

Yeah, I know. Stories and art go a long way; it's scary to imagine a world without them.
Thetis is a simple villian character based on his actions in ZXA, I admit, but once you piece together what's been happening and interpret some of the missing information, you just sorta end up getting... attached, in a way? Sounds weird, I know. At least, that's what happened to me. And that's why I get annoyed when he and the Big Four (and ANY ZX character) are interpreted with shallow personalities for comic relief; that just dumbs down their characters even more and makes their predicaments seem less serious than they really are.

It's really cool when a character can impact you this much. I really related to him in so many ways in ZXA; and honestly, even his methods may have made the most sense of anyone in ZXA. If people can't find a solution to their littering, sometimes you just need to get rid of the problem...

I like to believe that we can remedy the problem without having to make the human race extinct. That's the one thing I disagree about Thetis. From what I understand, we've been making a few (albeit slow?) advancements toward helping the planet... Then again, I'm not experienced with the subject myself. Please don't quote me on anything.

It's a subject I'm quite familiar with, and I can agree with you on things for sure. We are certainly making advancements as a species.... just not fast enough. And it's often the case of those with not-great economic standpoints being unable to afford the change/unsure if they can do it, and people with a lot of money not caring enogh. its tough.
And no, extinction doesn't have to happen... but a good cull couldn't hurt.

Yeah, you guys are right, humans take time to advance in technology, to evolve, decades, centuries, sometimes even millenniums. But when we do, we do it greatly. I think, frankly, that Thetis is an incompetent jerk at times, and really, he needs to chill. Also, I am sorry if that offends you guys, but it's just my silly opinion, after all, isn't that what comments are for?
