Nope. MLW's. MLW was the Canadian counterpart to ALCO.

So a bastardized version of GE then. I wasn't too far off (considering GE actually "bought" part of ALCo early on).

It seems you are a bit confused here. GE is GE, ALCO is ALCO. ALCO had a partnership with GE throughout the 1940's and 1950's ALCO produced the prime mover and locomotive shell while GE supplied the electrical apparatus. Sometime in the late 50's GE decided that they wanted to develop their own locomotive line rather than simply supply ALCO. Thats when GE developed their own prime mover and by 1962 developed the Universal series of locomotives. The partnership was ended although ALCO still purchased electrical components from GE. From that point forward, ALCO and GE were two different locomotive builders with their own line of products. Since GE was producing a better locomotive than ALCO, Sales of ALCO products declined with ALCO exiting the locomotive market in 1969. MLW, ALCO's Canadian counterpart continued to build locomotives until purchased by Bombardier in the late 70's. Bombardier continued to build locomotives until the early 80's.
