Description

Lately I have been getting a lot of questions on how I make my images. So I have decided to put together a little article to help people get started with apophysis. I am linking tutorials that I know can help produce quality results I am not intending to take credit for any of these tutorials I am just sharing the resources.

1.What is apophysis? Its a free program used to create digital images based on mathematical equations. Don't worry the program does most of the work. A more basic way of looking at it would be you start with a single point and then add to it in different directions until you have an image.

Here Are a couple examples of what you could create using this program as you can see you add a lot of points to come up with a finished product. You can also see that the possibilities are virtually endless.

2.Where do I get Apophysis? The final version of Apophysis can be found here.
:thumb134116371: He has some install instructions right on the page.

This tutorial also has some basic installation information and it also has some basic interface information to help you learn what the buttons do in apophysis and while it may not be for the current version of apophysis it can still be very usefull to you.

I want to put a warning in here as far as pluggins go Dont just download all kinds of pluggins at once add a few and make sure the programs working correctly that way if problems come up you can just get rid of your newest additions and fix it. I found that the program doesnt function well with more then 40 or 50 installed if you intend to use the mutation part of the program you may want even less. To get started I recommend
once you have the basics down you can search in da resources for more and new pluggins.

Ok now that you have the program installed and a couple pluggins.

I am going to recommend a couple of basic tutorials that can help you get results fast. Some of these may need to be downloaded however they are worth the time a few hours working thru them can save you hours of headaches trying to get the results you want.

Before we get into using other peoples tutorials have a look at this it is important that your work be your own.

I recommend this tutorial it gives some very basic knowledge of what happens when you change numbers and variables while it wont help you build the end result instantly it will show you how to get there.

Wire+Tube Fractals Tutorial by `CygX1

These tutorials will show how quickly and easily you can start making very good looking fractals.

Julia Uncovered v.2.2 by `ClaireJones

Another great tutorial that will yield results very quickly.
Apo-Tuto_Disc-Julian by =Fiery-Fire

There are many many more great tutorials out there but I strongly recommend doing at least these three to get a real feel of what your doing before you run into a more complicated tutorial.

A basic help file to get you thru any problems you might run into.

Ok now that you have something to finish you'll want to render it to disk this is a basic example of how to render a file. I personally render mine to .jpg file type right away since I use an older version of paintshop that does not support .png files. You decide what file type in the file destination line you will see in the image below depending on the ending of the file name.Make sure your saving it someplace you can find them I recommend creating a folderΒ Β on your drive just for your renders.

Rendering.

Now when rendering there is a little box on the render screen called post render I strongly recommend checkmarking this and using the following tutorial as a guide you can make several adjustments to your final image in apophysis before you save it to disk. They are easy and you will catch on to it quickly.

Post rendering.

And there you have it everything you need to know to create your own fractals with apophysis in one place.

I am going to do a small feature here of the works of everyone I used tutorials from to create this. In order that they appeared.

:thumb145030003::thumb137540713::thumb141018457:

while they are a group they deserve mention.

And there you have it I want to thank everyone that has put tutorials up on da for us to use. I hope this will help some new fractalists get started with not to many issues.

Thanks man!!! I have tried Apophysis with little success; this will help. I have been using Tirea zon and its OK but not getting the results I want there either especially controlling the color.

Thanks again & stay groovy

Great idea and the resources you referenced are excellent for new entrants!

I would suggest a lower threshold on the plug-ins of 27-30 maximum if you are working on an older system.

Craig-Larsen In reply to GraphicLia [2012-01-02 02:04:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah you might be right with the pluggins but I tend to push the limits. Thats what I was able to run on the pc I was using at the time. I slowly removed the pluggins till it seemed to function at a reasonably wait. Trust me I get impatient when you click and it lags.

GraphicLia In reply to Craig-Larsen [2012-01-02 02:12:54 +0000 UTC]

I push it hard too because I get tired of swapping plug-ins. Xyrus said he was cleaning a bunch of them up and recompiling for the 7x vers.16 release. Bound to be QC issues with too many fingers in the pie.

I have a mental block on Apo for some unknown reason. So many of the parameters just seem meaningless to me, and I have a hard time figuring out what they do. And I don't know if I have enough patience spend a lot of time testing them out. I have tried, but I get frustrated in about 10-15 minutes with no appreciable result.
I would grab that program's neck and shake it if I could!

Well Sparky there should be a special place for you in Heaven. I've only "known" you for a week or so and my general impression of you is that you are very helpful and generous.

Thanks for putting this together. I can't believe I've gone five years without knowing about post-process render. That was the gem I discovered in this news article of yours.
