Description classy, sassy, and a little smart assy.

oh my god! is this my long-anticipated return to deviantart??

hahaha probably not. I don't think that account I was making noise about around this time last year is going to happen either. it's likely that the next platform I'll make for specifically my art will be a portfolio website. at this point I just feel most comfortable uploading casual art (which is pretty infrequent, unfortunately, with a full-time job) to tumblr, and deviantart doesn't serve any particular purpose for me anymore. it seems like a handful of the artists I watch are in a similar position, although some of them still upload faithfully here, which is why my account will never -truly- be inactive, because I still lurk. relentlessly.

for some reason I just felt compelled to upload this little doodle here, since saree's origins are with this account and it just feels appropriate. drawing her now makes me overwhelmingly conscious of just how...bizarrely cartoonish her markings are? I have no idea why I put those rings on her tail either. according to her most recent ref, she's supposed to be a somali cat, despite not resembling one in the slightest? haha I don't even know. I slapped some quick and dirty somali markings on her here oi44.tinypic.com/m4qyp.jpg and I'm not really sure how I feel about it. might kind of have to blend that together with her current markings, but...you know. priorities.

incidentally (and this is a tooooootal tonal shift so sorry about that) my cat pepper passed away last night. it was a complete shock for all of us - as of monday night he was fine, as of tuesday we had taken him into the vet to have a blockage in his bladder removed, and he had an odd reaction to the anesthesia and died right there on the table. he was only 7, and he was born a barn cat, so we all expected him to live a long, healthy life, but I guess life had other plans. seems like it always kind of happens that way. I've had an awesome summer so far, working at a job I genuinely enjoy and spending a lot of time with my best friends from high school. next week I'm going to a concert I've been really looking forward to, the week after is my birthday, and the week after I get to go back to grand valley to start my sophomore year studying illustration. losing pepper was a real kick in the gut and it still doesn't really feel like it happened.

...uh, regardless, here's a drawing of a purple cartoon cat? I have no idea how to follow that up.

I'm never going to be able to curb my desire to be unnecessarily wordy on this damn website ):

here's a link to my tumblr if you somehow missed it. www.quriosity.tumblr.com I have no idea how long it might be until you hear from me again here.

YOU need to post here more often.  I tried tumblr but couldn't really get into it, so it kind of saddens me to see a lot of artists abandoning dA for it, but I guess that's my problem.

But it's nice to see you around and to see Saree again!  She looks great in this style, I especially like way you drew the paws, and the chunky tufts of fur.  And hey, cartoon cats don't really need to bear that much of a resemblance to their supposed breeds, right?  That's what makes them so fun.

I'm sorry to hear about Pepper, I know how it feels when a pet dies but I've never lost one so suddenly and at such a young age, so I can't really imagine how much of a shock that must have been.  I hope you and your family are doing OK.
