A Dewlap...Yes I seem to remember that in the foggy vagueness of my memory it was in my 4-H Rabbit book years ago.
I have a Nikon D80 SLR, with a 18-55mm Lens and 70-300mm Lens so I can get up close from across the ring.
Canons are ok, that one seems good. But personally I love the feel of the Nikon over Canon. You should play with every camera in the size and shape that feels good to your hand, pick your favorite ones and compare features and Optical Zoom. Flat out ignore the Digital(read why below). Look at how the menus work and what the battery(ies) is/are what kind of memory card(xd's are hard to get in more than 2GB, sd's are the most common). Check the price of an extra battery(Very important if your going to a show!)
The best tip I give a first time camera buyer(for an expensive camera) is think about what you are going to be using it for. The better the Optical Zoom the better your picture. Digital Zoom will decrease the quality of your image more and more the closer you need to pull it in. I have a Fuji Advanced Point and Shoot(which is like the Cannon you liked) and I turn off the Digital Zoom if I'm using it for anything, but I turn it back on for my husband. He's visually impaired and uses it as an optic sometimes and doesn't mind the major pixelation until it gets put on the computer or viewed on the TV.
*Phheewww* I think that's it, sorry for the novel. A bunny photoshoot would be so much fun!
