Description *story*-----------

Testing of the Anubis Engine went far better than expected. They were expected to last through the test run, but no one expected the surprise attack by hostile forces. Even more surprising was their continued functionality after the test team was KIA. In light of these results we propose deploying small Anubis teams at different fronts to see how they perform while development and refinement of Anubis and its related parts will be prioritized. We foresee great potential in this project and hope you approve of our proposed budget to make the Anubis the greatest asset in your army.

Anubis Project R&D team's report to the Pharaoh

-----------------------

ahhhh Ancient Space Egyptians.

So the Anubis is a type of soldier i came up with awhile ago. I wanted to play off the ancient Egyptians beliefs in the afterlife, mummies, and reanimation. i chose Anubis for his associations to mummification and the afterlife.

the concept is that when a soldier dies in combat if his/her body is still intact then it is collected and brought back to base. this is where the Anubis Engine comes into play. The Anubis Engine is essentially a preservative suit of mechanical armor that uses the dead body as a base to aid in movement and to keep its form. This allows fallen soldiers to be redeployed for future use in the battlefield.

The suit is heavy and requires a considerable amount of energy to power. power is derived from a small fusion reactor in the back of the suit (like Iron Man.) Electrical impulses are also employed to make the suit move and to trigger the muscles of the body to perform functions ( i.e pulling the trigger, walking, turning the head, etc.) Due to the nature of suit and the body inside movements are jerky at best and the whole unit moves at a lumbering pace.

Speed is not an issue however. The greatest advantage of the Anubis is that standard caliber bullets will do little to bring it down. due to the dead state of the body and the mechanical nature of the suit theres nothing that can technically be killed. explosives would be the only option. coupled with solid infantry support the Anubis could potentially form a strong offensive wall while drawing fire away from the infantry support.

Offensively the Anubis is capable of sporting modified hand mounted versions of many rifles. the one pictured here has a .50 caliber machine gun that can only fire in 3 shot bursts. other weapons include modified belt fed assault rifles and grenade launchers. the weight of the weapons does affect performance so heavier weapons are not issued as often because of their taxing effect on the power source. most weapons would be belt fed from a back pack and have a large amount of ammunition. reloading would have to be done manually by a retainer (Think the Matrix:Revolutions when the robots need to be reloaded only smaller.)

I enjoyed working on this one a lot and expect more from the Ancient Egypt series.

I like the color scheme, and the armor design looks cool - but I think chubby doesn't fit the jackal-like Anubis. Also...if the soldier is already dead, what's the point of putting the corpse inside a suit? Why not just build a fully mechanical one? But if you like the idea of using corpses, you could add that the combat experience of the fallen soldier could be accessed and uploaded to the suit (and the whole mainframe back at base as well), so they can perform better, at least for a while before being popped open again.

Oh god... that would be a scary as heck thing to go up agenst... and the using living body thing is a nice touch, expecialy since its an egyptian theme with it XD

And heck, if that power pack was impoved to put out enough excess power, it could add an extra layer of deffense for the units incase another armored suite or infentry unit gets to close, an electrical touch deffense system... stupid I know... just a thought.

DissonantRequiem [2010-09-29 21:27:39 +0000 UTC]

I like this concept tons and tons, but there's one thing you forgot to mention:

The human portion, while dead, would require replacement after about a week or so of high-intensity activity, given that the wear and tear placed on the musculature of the subject would be unable to be repaired, even with the best of preservatives.
Also, since the suit is using the musculature as a base, high-penetration rounds could potentially destroy vital tissues, disabling/impairing certain motions.

CrazyAsian1 In reply to DissonantRequiem [2010-09-29 21:40:51 +0000 UTC]

mmm good point... think regenerative nano machines that could repair the tissues work?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DissonantRequiem In reply to CrazyAsian1 [2010-09-29 22:48:04 +0000 UTC]

Maybe. It seems a little counterintuitive, though: why not use those machines for regular troops?

Either that or you use these suits as kind of a venerable sort of thing: The suits are used by living subjects and sent on very dangerous missions, perhaps in squads. Any casualties are considered "highly honoured" or some Egyptian equivalent. These wetwork-interfaced suits can then be deployed amongst normal troops as support or security, or again in squads to serve as morale shock troops. Or perhaps, sent on suicide missions so that it's less likely to use the same sarcophagus for two corpses.

CrazyAsian1 In reply to DissonantRequiem [2010-10-01 06:11:00 +0000 UTC]

i would say that giving reconstructive nano machines to a healthy human would actually be very unhealthy. wouldnt it constantly rebuild the muscles after every movement causing the person to become grotesquely large? this is just theoretical though, and i understand what youre saying which makes perfect sense as well.

i like the idea of using them as shock troops and for specialized purposes. Bodyguards would be great too since they wont go down. i appreciate the feedback. its been very helpful

BobaTeaAddict In reply to CrazyAsian1 [2010-10-07 02:20:10 +0000 UTC]

This conversation made me think of Dragoons in StarCraft. Dragoons are controlled by zealots who can't fight like normal zealots do due to falling in battle from intense casualties.(Correct me if I'm wrong)

But nonetheless, I really like how you made Anubis. OH and I kept thinking of Prince of Persia for the suit energy of using "sand."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

DissonantRequiem In reply to CrazyAsian1 [2010-10-01 16:23:34 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that makes sense. I suppose that when designing something that doesn't exist yet, imperfections give it a sense of reality. Nothing was perfect the first time(s).

And you're very welcome. I love this kind of thing; I'm glad you don't mind.
