Thought I'd try my hand at designing Cheese and Tomato's parents. Keep in mind that this is my headcanon; if you adopt it, great! If you insist on your own, that's great too! Just as long as you don't try to force your headcanon on me, it's all good. Remember, I'd rather we get along. Okay? Okay.Now... I shall refrain from naming the parents. You can come up with your own.
Anyway, I designed them with a palette of oranges, yellows, and browns in mind (friendly reminder that Tomato Sandwich is red-orange, not full-on red). And green eyes for the boys. And some fancy stuff--yeah, okay, unimportant.
I have a feeling that Cheese's parents and Pinkie's parents would not get along. Is somebody going to explore that, or are you waiting for me to explore it via fanfic? That might not be for a while...

I highly doubt it.
When I went around the 'net to do a bit of research on Marine Sandwich--eventually getting to the comic itself and reading it--I found out that she's from Gallopvania. Cheese Sandwich, on the other hand, is from Manehattan.

So, no, that's enough to say that they're not siblings. Distantly related, maybe, but not siblings.

I do plan to explore it, at least in my EG fic. I'm just about to ring Cheese's mom as an offstage presence. If I do a sequel, she'll make a definite appearance with a standoff againt Pinkie.
I actually like your headcanon being different from mine! I'm not changing mine from being an only child with some specific culture issues, but I also like Tommy and the way you're building him and his relationship back together with his brother. I've even thought of doing that silly little fanfic of your fanfic with hints of a surprise Tommy ship.
I think of the Pies as being very serious and very dour, but held together by love and common work, and Cheese's family the reverse.

Ehahaha, different strokes for different folks, eh? I am quite proud with how Tommy's been turning out. The ask blog has sure been helping me with developing his character, since I didn't want him to be a simple stereotype or one of those flat Cheese siblings that is either a complete unrepentant jerk or an r63 Maud. I have fun with the comically serious nature of his personality, the contrasting impishness of his colthood self, and even with some of those quirks of his that sneak out from time to time.
We do kinda see the Pies and the Sandwiches the same way.

Yes--I think it's a little unimaginative to assume that the Pies actually treated Pinkie badly or that they're mean. It's perfectly possible to have an affectionate family and also to be a square peg in a round hole. Give Pinkie's family credit that they realized this and found her a place where she could do what suited her and be happy, I think.
It's too bad that the chapter book ruins a lot of this, but Pinkie Pride and Maud Pie Jossed a lot of the book anyway, so I don't feel a lot of guilt about omitting the details.
I'm not sure why it seems so obvious that Cheese's family must be awful, unless it's because probably a kid with an entirely happy home life doesn't run away from home because he's teased at school, but I don't know.
I think of regular Cheese's mom as being a yenta, a nag, and someone who is perpetually dissatisfied with her son and not shy about letting him know it. If she had her way, he'd have stayed in Bayroan like a good little colt, married the next door neighbor's girl, Balcony Flowerbox, and been bullied by her until the day she died. Fortunately for him, Balcony was one of the kids who called him Four-Eyes. They cordially loathe each other to this day. And thus Gefilte Sandwich is doomed to be frustrated, but she probably likes feeling put upon, so everypony wins . . . sorta.
EG Cheese's mom is a whole different kettle of fish, as you will see in a day or two at most.
