The Puppetmaster swept down the hall, his lab coat trailing behind him. "Another failure." It was all he had needed to hear to know exactly what had happened- another experiment, gone to retrieve the mavericks, come back again in a matchbox. It had happened more than once, and seemingly with increasing frequency. Still, he supposed, it was better than not getting them back at all- already several experiments had defected to the rebels. He ground his teeth just slightly and refocused on the matter at hand. Standing by a doorway just ahead of him was one of his more trusted assistants, who immediately fell into step beside him as he passed.
"Another one?" He barely cast her a glance.
"Another one." she confirmed, eyes set straight ahead.
"Same as the others, I presume?"
"Completely-" even the Puppetmaster couldn't repress a tsk- "except for one small thing."
His eyes flashed to his assistant at the mention of an anomaly. And yet, she refused to meet his eyes, seeming increasingly and uncharacteristically uncomfortable, fidgeting and staring at the ground.
"Such as?" He fought to restrain his impatience.
"They, uh... sent you a note."
She held up a somewhat pinkish piece of paper, folded into quarters. The Puppetmaster stared at it a moment, then took it and placed it in his pocket.
"Very well. I shall read it in my study. Thank you, Gardner. Dispose of the rest as usual."
And with that, he left.

In his study, he leaned against his desk and pulled out the note, examining it before opening it and reading it.

Dearest Puppetmaster ,
It's too bad it didn't work out with the new playmate you sent us. As it turns out, he was a big fat jerk and we were simply too different. We can see why you would feel a kinship with him, though, because you're such a smelly sack of poo. Maybe if you weren't such a stinky buttface things would have been different between us. But as they say in France, c'est la vie! Better luck next time, and go fuck yourself with a chainsaw. If you're ever looking for a place to get away from your pathological suckiness, go hit up a dark cave somewhere! I hear they're great for getting forgotten about in. In fact, why don't you just die in one while you're there! Peace out!

A subtle twitch.
The Puppetmaster very quietly and calmly laid the note down on his desk and exited his office. As he passed out of the hall, the windows all simultaneously shattered outward and his shadow shrank back to its normal size underneath his feet.
The janitorial staff really ought to be paid more.

"Oh my god, I can't believe we did that!!" Maria's nervous grin was almost hidden behind her hands and hair- almost.
"I KNOW!!" Vanessa's own smile could have been seen from a mile away as she leaped a solid six feet into the air, pounding the air with her fist and turning a half-somersault while she was airborne. "Oh, man, what I would not GIVE to see his face!" She laughed as she landed.
"It must have been FANTASTIC." Goro's smile was almost dreamy as he contemplated their nemesis' reaction.
"You realize he's probably going to redouble his efforts for this." Thomas raised an eyebrow at the rest of the group, all giddy with their latest rebellion. "When the next attack comes, it'll be with a vengeance." Some of the less confident of the teens, such as Maria, lost some of their levity, but Jack was certainly having none of it.
"Oh, come on, stick in the mud! Have a little fun! We've been kicking ASS lately! We deserve a little bad behavior!"
"Yeah!" Vanessa slapped his shoulder playfully. "Besides, look at us!" She swept her hand over the group, using the other hand to point his head in the right direction. "ALL of us have made it this far. There's like eight of us here, and only one of him," she grinned and ruffled his hair while she had the opportunity. "So cheer up, Flower Power! So long as we stick together, I bet we can handle anything ol' Puppetface can throw at us."

i had to do this. i don't even remember how we got there but this stemmed from a conversation between =The-Insignia and i.
i don't care what he has to say, this is TOTALLY headcanon for me. XD

also, i forgot how fun the puppetmaster is to write. XD
