Backstory: Sphalerite was created in a Kindergarten in the same quadrant as the Gem Homeworld, spending the first few years on his birth planet until he was transported to the Homeworld for training. Under the watchful eyes of the finest warriors of gemkind Sphalerite quickly ascended the ranks of his fellow breed of assassin gems, leading to him being used for a variety of important mission consisting of quickly and quietly eliminating threats to the Homeworld. This became more so the situation when the battle for earth happened.
Eventually Sphalerite was given a command from the highest of authorities, one mission to end the war and ensure the fate of the planet earth. The mission was to assassinate Rose Quarts. Sphalerite accepted the mission and was sent to earth, when he tracked down where Rose Quarts was he was stunned to see that rather than a menacing being leading a despicable insurrection, he saw a compassionate leader of a ragtag army of freedom fighters. Though orders were orders and Sphalerite attacked, but for all his skills he was overwhelmed and defeated by Rose Quarts protectors. What Sphalerite never saw coming was how Rose showed sorrow for the pain he received from her companions, leading her healing tears to repair his gem that was badly damaged in the fight. And in return for saving him Sphalerite swore loyalty to Rose Quarts and her army.
However before the war would end Sphalerite would put his life on the line to prevent Rose Quarts from being found by Homeworld forces by disguising himself as her to lead enemy forces away. He succeeded in his task at the expense that he would be stuck down and his gem lost and damaged, not to be discovered and mended until Steven’s time.
