At the time [95/96] I did this batch of vampire art I was playing WOD and running a fun and lengthy campaign. I'm a hardcore vamp fan but don't really care too much for WOD werewolves. To me, this is a pic of just before the vampire turns the wolf into mincemeat. The flash of red isn't supposed to be a specific power, more showing that things are kicking in and something's going to happen. My intent was to use a werewolf for artistic variety, have him bigger than the vamp and obviously vicious to make an imposing opponent. Plus I wanted to achieve the furry look without linework or cross hatching. Was trying to make more monster than animal, and definitely wasn't worried with similarities to a real wolf. You used the word surreal, and that's exactly the thing I was going for. More of a wolf-ish monster than anything quasi-realistic. Great critique, thanks for taking the time!

Great job on the coloring and shading.
The werewolf, in particular, has the feeling of being made from a woodcut block print.
Although the large amount of black used could have overpowered the image, I think it works very well here.

thanks! I try to color in solid shapes to match the inks. I'm just happy I got that furry look without any crosshatching or line work. I joined DA to inspire more art and so far it has. After looking at this stuff I'm thinking maybe another werewolf piece sometime.

Your coloring technique works very well.
It'll be interesting to see how it develops over time.
