I've been doing a roleplay for almost a solid year about Pokemon, combining a (non canon) background in the era of Kings and Queens, where the world was under the watchful eye of Arceus and his created 18---essentially gods, one for each plate he has. They were known as the 18. Some were pure types (Like Dolus), and some were Duality (like Duke). Sage is a pure water time and rules the oceans. He called the Temple of Water (Temple of the Sea) his home and was the wisest and most passive of the bunch. Preferring never to resort to violence. He married a mortal, had a child, but said wife was petrified and even his curative properties could not rid it. So she remained a statue for a good thousand years. His child died before hitting 16 (in human years in growth) but lived to 92 (due to mortal/immortal shenanigans)

All the 18 eventually perished, multiple times over. Eventually in the modern age of (Ash and co timeline) Pokemon, some nonsense happened with General (pure fire type) who ended up in Sycamores host. So water went to kabu, despite being...a fire gym leader. All the 18 re-emerge in the modern age but all need a host to merge with. And continue with their given purpose.

Sage is among the oldest. Alongside Dolus (Guzma), Prophet (OC), Duke (Grimsley), Baron (Falkners dad/OC), Lord (Raihan), and Nomad (Spark)
