Description
“I woke up in a dark place, darker than any badger´s burrow; almost as dark as the night sky, but no stars where glowing in my prison. I smelt the air, it was a nice feeling, but I couldn´t recognize the flower or tree that smelt that way. I listened, but at my fear only silence could laugh. I looked, and my gaze was eaten by the deepness of the void.”
“I ran in fear; for the only thing that was real and familiar in that nightmare was the floor under my paws. A rocky floor, irregular… and as I realized, the floor started to glow with a pale light, like the one you sometimes can feel, but not see, on a New Moon. Then I watched my surroundings, but there were no walls to stop me. Nothing to tell me where I was.”
“I smelt again, trying to catch the smell of my packmates; but only the mysterious flower´s fragrance met my nose.”
“Then I rose my face to the sky, looking for my lady shining up there, giving me a clue that I was in the real world, that this wasn´t the other side. My breath turned quicker when I thought She wasn´t there; but I found her. Luna was almost on the floor, so I turned and ran towards her direction to ask her. She was far, so I ran for a long time.”
When I thought I was close enough to howl and make her listen, I stopped suddenly: I found a wall. And through the wall´s window I was seeing the Moon, my lady. The round wall´s window was made of colored glass, like in human´s big houses of meeting, where they represent their gods. It represented a wolf howling in a blue sky, and the phases of the Moon were represented as well. I was confused, now I really thought I had died during the night, and gone to Luna´s chamber to wait for my pack to travel togheter until the end of times.”
“But the elders never taught me about this place. Luna was supposed to come and take my soul from my dead body after death. I looked at her shining round surface again, but she wasn´t there. I whined like a puppy, in absolute fear for my lady was not there anymore to protect my poor lost soul. I howled and cried, and then realized a weak light on my back. I turned my head from the window´s sight, to meet a woman.”
“She was pale and beautiful like the winter snow, with her long shining hair glowing like liquid silver, almost floating. Her smile touched my heart and kissed my soul, like the sun after a cold night. Her hands we holding a small Crescent Moon, that she offered to me. I had never seen her in my life, yet I knew, deep inside, that she was our lady. Legends about Luna offering grey wolves –like me!- to be her priests, the alpha telling mom I was the first grey wolf born in the pack in 100 years, the memory of the first Moon seen in the same day of my birth: it was crescent, magic and beautiful… all that came suddenly into my head. She smiled again; and without words she asked me again. I watched her cold glow, an eerie glow that didn´t give light to my fur or to the floor, just to her. And I knew I wanted to serve her forever, that I wanted to be a priest, but I cried for I knew no longer I could be a normal wolf, that I must leave my pack, and look for the others: the Changers, and become one of them.”
“Yes, I cried.”
“Because in the moment I licked her hands, the little shining moon she was holding melt with me, and I was no longer a wolf. Wolves cannot cry, but humans can, and Changers too. She told me not to suffer, not to cry, not to be sad; because the gift she gave me was the best bless she could offer to our people. The gift to talk with the spirits, to see what others can´t see, and to protect the soul of our kind. She told me to go and use it well. My desire to be with her was weaker than my desire to serve her, so I left that place, following the moonbeam she created for me. She took my first tears and kept them, saying she would return them back in times of need, because it is known wolf´s tears never fall in vain.”

This is a short story I created for my character Crescent. Maybe I will write more as I do more drawings about her, or members of her pack, or the story -some of them could be other deviant´s characters, I have a few candidates in mind that maybe I will ask in the future ^__^. Writing it was harder than I thought it would be! If I keep interest in the story maybe I could write something more seriously and create a mini-world were to base my drawings. Anyway, I hope you like it.
