It's a fantastic place, but a bit of a walk from where you are.

Late, I'm always late. I will be off any second though. I'm running late, I've been really busy sorting out loads of stuff for a show next week.

There's a lot of truth in that.
I do try and anticipate what an animal is going to do next, so maybe it's not all luck. Cheers

Lovely portrait here. Would have been nicer if you had the chance to get lower to its eye level though. Also since the gaze is directed towards the right of the frame you might want to leave more room for it to 'look into'

crhino In reply to furryphotos [2007-03-29 18:53:05 +0000 UTC]

True, but I was hanging off the side of the waters edge, as it was. We were on a slope and I couldn't get any lower.
I do have some of this one, where there is the space you mention, but as this one caught the droplet of water, I used it. I do try and take several different shots at once. The rule of looking into space isn't always necessary, sometimes other shots just work.

Besides the darkness *CoupeKid mentioned, this shot is great. The pose is wonderful, and I like the water, both the droplet AND in the lake/river/ whatever it is. Try a levels adjustment, then tweak the brightness/contrast and I think you'll like the results.

crhino In reply to julieanshar [2007-03-27 23:46:53 +0000 UTC]

I have tried that. I haven't quite got it right yet. Cheers.

CoupeKid [2007-03-27 07:46:53 +0000 UTC]

Again a beautiful capture, nice intensity, however, (as you have asked for advanced critique) I think there is so much more to be had from this shot.

I know exactly where this shot was taken, so I know it was pretty dark, however, the shot it too dark, and I reckon with a bit of tweaking it could easily be lifted, and I would also selectively brighten those eyes. Also it looks like there is a little blue cast creeping in there?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

crhino In reply to CoupeKid [2007-03-27 11:14:46 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree. The original isn't this dark. I know the look that I'm after, but I can't seem to get anywhere near it. I'm not sure how to do the eyes on their own. Do I select them with the lasso?
The original, although lighter, was a bit bland. I'll fiddle with it again sometime.

CoupeKid In reply to crhino [2007-03-27 17:42:49 +0000 UTC]

I use Photoshop, zoom right in to the eyes and using the 'mask' mode paint the eyes. then switch back to the selection mode (to the left of mask mode button)
select inverse (so you have now selected just the eyes) feather by 1 or 2. Then increase the brightness a little, and increase the saturation a little too. (I also like to sharpen the eyes alittle too )

Before doing this, I would have a little fiddle with the levels.

crhino In reply to CoupeKid [2007-03-28 00:14:51 +0000 UTC]

Tried that and obviously did it wrong. I'm not sure what you mean. I've never used masks before and I ended up with a transparent gap where the eye was.
I'd already done it with the wand, when I read your message, but I tried it out later.
I just selected the eye with the wand and increased brightness/contrast.
