Description "The slumber boat"

Baby's boat the silver moon
Sailing in the sky
Sailing o'er the sea of sleep,
While the clouds float by.

Sail, Baby, sail
Out upon that sea,
Only don't forget to sail
Back again to me.

Baby's fishing for a dream,
Fishing near and far,
His line a silver moonbeam is,
His bait a silver star.

{American lullaby}

Was it spontaneous or planned?

Planned. We were staying at a seaside hotel and I watched it approach the full moon over a few days

It was a magic moment on holiday four years ago (I can't believe it's been that long though) and was indeed beautiful

Have you checked out my "Tangled in a pine tree..." - same location, give or take. It was taken at 1:13 a.m. (Spain are an hour

ahead of UK) last year, after which I found myself locked out of the hotel...
                                                                                        ...now that is history...

No confusion, it's straight out of the camera... it would have been better composition if I'd manufactured it!!!

When I started, a definition was compulsory. So rather than just put a single full stop or a pointless 'my cat', I started adding the quotes etc. It made a submission more fun, at least for me and deviants like you. Thanks again.

You bring me back to look at a lovely warm Mediterranean evening with a beautiful moon. We are still trying to escape our wettest winter ever in the UK, so it's a lovely reminder of happier times.

I can never get that much moonlight into my pics

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cricketumpire In reply to sap8 [2013-10-20 08:31:03 +0000 UTC]

"Luck!"  I was experimenting, the exposure metering was aimed at the sea and therefore the reflected moonlight. With the camera on a tripod and a 30 second exposure the result was as you see it!

It was an experiment as much as anything. I tried to improve on it this September but the moon wasn't in the same place, which proves I know nothing about astronomy. Oh well, next year or another location?

nectar666 In reply to cricketumpire [2013-10-21 11:11:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you gotta grab the moment in photography.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cricketumpire In reply to nectar666 [2013-10-21 11:29:49 +0000 UTC]

I suppose that is a major difference between photography and art. We sit and say "if only the moon was a little lower" or "the cloud more to the left", the artist can put a desired feature in the perfect place. Pushing a button at the ideal moment does perhaps need less skill than wielding a paintbrush though?
