Description Portrait practice. Ms. Portman has a challenging face to capture (um, not to imply that I succeeded in capturing it) and I've never worked on a picture of her before. I've got a few professional quality portraits to render in the next weeks and this is a warm-up. I considered finishing the hair with a brilliant suggestion to restyle it after the beautiful Morana Garcia but I decided not to go that far with it. Thus, yes, the hair sucks. Anyway, I'm not completely unhappy with it. I might try Ms. Natalie again sometime.

Um, hit me with crits if you want. I don't mind but this isn't going to change. I consider this piece finished for what I wanted with it right now.
The important thing here is that I am getting very close to finding my digital style (I think) and I was really happy with the look of the paint and brushwork in this one. Still needs tweaking but oh well... next time. :]

Referenced a cover of Entertainment Weekly.

And, occasionally, after I upload a portrait someone will note me about doing a tutorial. Well, I'm flattered but I think there are already some great tutorials out there from much better artists. I always find the help and advice of my friend Sira Sandberg very helpful to my artwork. She has an account entirely dedicated to many kinds of tutorials. She's a very busy person, so you have to be patient until she can get back to them, but the wait is worth it... and so is checking out *sirasan for the great tutorials that are already up.

All work here done freehand with mouse in PSCS2 on one layer with one brush (varying sizes) for paint and one brush for blending. Both of those are custom brushes based on the Chalk brush. No prepaint. No sketch. Approximately 15 hours total, had a power failure once in the middle and had to start over with some of it.

Thanks for looking!

I meant to type "captured" her perfectly, but my computer decided it wanted to fuck me up. The comment should make more sense now.

Thanks mate. She certainly doesn't have any easy likeness to capture. I appreciate some feedback directed at that rather than just, "looks awesome". I'm glad I did a good job in your eyes. ^^

Oh My Gosh!! I love this so much! It looks like a watercolor! I especially like the hair; the soft way it blends in with the color in the background is sexy and attractive. I especially enjoy her eyes and lips; they're very realistic and it's apparent to me you've spent a great deal of time and effort on them. You're getting powerfully better with each portrait; keep it up!!!

Fantastic work, especially considering you are using a mouse. Good job on just using 1 layer too, I too find it gives a more painterly style to try and keep the number of layers down.
Looks beautifully soft, lovely piece

It looks captured to me. Her eyes really reflect life. I guess what I mean is, it's not just an inanimate portrait...it looks like a live person with thoughts in her mind at this moment. I like it!

Looks good. I'm not a painter at all, but maybe if for example the eyes were painted slightly sharper it would be more thrillning.
But gosh, thats just small thing... anyhow you did great.... it so looks like her, one can't possibly think its another person
