Description Okay lot's of tl;dr here...

I believe I was in one of those FFVII moods, listening to the OST and of course a rather sad track is "On the Other Side of the Mountain". It just kinda popped into my head, I felt like it would be great to show a deeper side into the situation.

This scene is brought up towards the end of the lifestream sequence instead Cloud's mind on disk 2. You find out that Tifa went to follow her recent passed mother's spirit into the Nibel mountains. Cloud at that time went to follow her as well, although all of Tifa's "trio" of friends all ditched her Cloud kept on following. You find out that Tifa had missed her step and Cloud ran into her, and both fell off the mountain.

It went like this:

"Tifa was in a coma for seven days."
"We all thought she wouldn't make it."
"If only I could've saved her..."
"I was so angry... Angry at myself for my weakness."
"Ever since then, I felt Tifa blamed me..."
"I got out of control... I'd get into fights not even caring who
it was."

I thought it was a pretty sad moment. And I consider this event a pretty crucial part to the storyline in the game, after this happened Cloud pursued SOLIDER and Sephiroth so he could become stronger for Tifa and could protect her, fullfill the promise. And that's when he met Zack and so forth.

Haha ohh the lifestream sequence is so full of mind f's, I thought finding out all this stuff about Cloud was crazy (when I first played of course, I think I was 13 lol).

Anyway I took some freedom for the purpose of the Illustration. I remember that Tifa's bedroom was actually upstairs so there's no way this could've really worked with Cloud standing outside. And Tifa's father I kinda remember but there was no clear illustration on him, he's kinda hidden in this.

SERIOUSLY no more tl;dr I had some difficulties with this piece but it was a learning experience. I decided to go about the coloring in a more emotional manner rather than clean crisp shapes. I used Photoshop & my Wacom.

an actual legit moment from the game, but Cloud and Tifa TOTALLY don't care about each other!

the inner thoughts of certain shippers baffles me. I'm not a shipper myself but don't anyone try to say they don't care about one another.

Do people actually legitimately believe that they don't care about each other or they're just trying to further their own shipping agenda? I mean shipping the characters is one thing like you said, but just objectively going off of facts... it's hard to ignore that they both cared about each other, this scene amongst many. The whole lifestream sequence is just one fact after another that each of their actions effected the other, hell even Tifa being in his subconscious shows more than anything. Shippers are weird people haha!

I'm not a shipper but my thoughts are, they live together, appear to share a room together (with one bed), and as of the end of dirge of Cerberus are raising three kids together. Sounds like a couple to me.

But yes, a lot of people I know who Ship Cloud with Aerith, literally say him and Tifa makes no sense because he never pays attention to her (verbatim quote btw), and there's nothing in the game to suggest they have any strong emotions for one another.

And I get angry because these people clearly haven't actually played the game, but pretend to be fans of it. Whether you support the idea of Cloud and Tifa being a couple is irrelevant, one cannot deny they do hold each other as important figures in each others lives.

Seriously agree! Really funny though that when I was really into the FF7 fandom back in early 2000's the shipping war was huge and I was a big cloud/tifa shipper. I think both sides can be pretty nuts lmao but Cloud/Aeris fans always had seemed to deny anything factual within the game. I find it funny that so many years later it's still the same despite other supporting material, and just that the game has been out for 20+ years I thought things would've been different. I mean you could support your couple without actually denouncing the other side entirely and completely. I guess some things never change haha!

Very well done. ^^ It not only for Tifa that Cloud wanted to become strong. He wanted to show her and everyone else in his hometown that he could become strong like his hero. He was a loner.  Sadly it didn't work out like he wanted it too. Cloud had a rough childhood, I can't imagine his pain.

Yeah, I wonder if Tifa told her friends that it was her own intention to visit her mother, not Cloud's fault.

I wonder if Cloud forgave her for not letting him in and not telling him the truth of what happened when they were both young.

Maybe, but it doesn't matter, she never stood up for Cloud anyway. >.< So I tend to think she didn't.

That's hard to debate, although tifa years later keeps lying to Cloud about his past, when its his right to know who he truly is, and what happened, but nope, she selfishly continued to deny knowing about whether or not he was right about his past, and kept living in this dream world, of Cloud being her knight in shining armor. You don't do that to a friend, or to anyone for that matter. >.<

I think Tifa definitely DID apologize to Cloud. She is nicer than her child self! She cares about Aerith too and her family of friends. She even stood up for Marlene and tried to push Loz out of the flower field. She even tried to protect Denzel with her life on the line.

But to be fair, Tifa might have not been sure it was Zack or Cloud that came to Nibelheim at that time. She most likely suffered some kind of trauma to her head like Cloud after Sephiroth massacred his way through Nibelheim.

Like everyone else on the team, she has her own screw-ups, so I can understand why she lied to Cloud about someone named, "Zack."

I always thought the scene where Tifa was in his subconscious and we learn all of this stuff, was the most beautiful part of the game. Hehe, but that's just me. Great job on this. So much emotion. <3

Nice work.
In fact Tifa's father always thought it was Cloud's fault if his daughter went into coma and never let him to come close to Tifa after that. That's why they met the last time in Nibelheim during the night, I think.

That was the reason Cloud's and Tifa's relationship is so strong I think; the only problem is that in FF7 they do not show it, maybe because Aeris died and so the developers did not add a romantic scene; otherwise we would have had an ending with a kiss, just like in FF8 or 9.

crismas-art In reply to Xadren [2010-03-21 22:09:27 +0000 UTC]

I was fine with the way the game was personally. I think a lot of their relationship shined through on disk 2. And even the highwind scene was enough for me, they were so cute in that scene Personally a kiss is cute, but I feel like their relationship was so much more, I didn't need to see one to know how much they meant to each other

Btw thanks for all the comments!

You are really welcome! You know, I'm a fan of FF7 since I played it the first time long time ago in 1998. In these day I'm playing it again of PSP, but it's really unusual to find someone who actually know the original game and its situations, everyone now always speaks about AC, CC, BC (so many C..., to me C rhymes with crap), but a few of them know what really happened in the original game that, to me is the only canon.

crismas-art In reply to Xadren [2010-03-21 23:38:10 +0000 UTC]

Heck ya! I'm a long time fan myself I first played the game when I was 13 (I'm 25 now o_o). I also re-played it on my PSP recently too!

LOL @ the C rhymes with crap. I agree...there's too many sequels/prequels. I like some of the additional story to a degree. Some of it is just ridiculous, but I won't lie it's sometime nice to see my fav characters in new situations. But I feel like most of it, the back story just becomes too complex or too misconstrue.

To you it's right that Genesis made Sephiroth know about it's past? I prefer the original version in which Sephiroth thought Jenova was an Ancient and human beings stole the world from her. That made the relationship between Sephiroth and Jenova even more special because we did not know if the enemy we had in front of us were S., J. or maybe the two of them together in a new form of existence.
Cloud was the character who changed most in the sequels/prequels, in FF7 he's not so emo, so sad, so stupid (why not to say the true?); you remembered the scene under the Highwind, after the battle in Midgar when Cloud had ricovered from his mental injuries: he was so...hopeful, full of life and will of survive, to fight for the Planet and its creatures, to fight for his friends; he wanted to create a new life for himself and so he will respect Aeris sacrifice. He has nothing to do with his incarnation of AC, I think...

crismas-art In reply to Xadren [2010-03-22 15:59:08 +0000 UTC]

No way, I think all the backstory they added recently is misconstrue, it's odd and out of place. I don't even understand all the Genesis biz.

I watched all the CC FMV's (or most of them), but I didn't look too much into the Genesis/Angeal business.

I agree with you, the way the original relationships are in the game are fine and more unique.

Cloud's AC incarnation to me...was just another excuse to give Cloud additional story. Rather than make him happy and hopeful (like he was at the end of FFVII) they made his personality regress slightly. Although I understand the grieving part, it makes sense just because anyone could relate that he had little time to grieve over Zack and Aeris as a whole. But still...they almost made his character so hard to get through to, Tifa struggling to get him to understand a family life and settle down. IDK, I accept what it is, but I still prefer the original game Cloud.
