Description Giuseppe Balsamo (ジュゼッペ・バールサモ), better known by his alias Alessandro di Cagliostro (アレッサンドロ・ディ・カリオストロ), was an Italian self-proclaimed magician who was said to have performed mystic arts and engaged in occult activities across Europe who would come to be known decades after as a fraud and a con artist. Born poor in the city of Palermo in Sicily on June 2, 1743, Balsamo in his youth studied alchemy and religious rites in the in the Catholic Order of St. John of God before he was kicked out. In 1764, Balsamo convinced a goldsmith named Vincenzo Marano that there was a treasure buried at Mount Pellegrino centuries prior and that his knowledge on the occult would prevent monsters from attacking and stop them from taking their guarded treasure. In exchange for the expedition, Balsamo wanted seventy pieces of silver from him. However, when they reached their destination to recover the treasure, Balsamo assaulted the goldsmith and left him for dead. This was his first notable con-job in his lifetime. He then left the city to escape Marano, who came to visit his house the day after, and fled to Messina.

His career began in 1768 when he came to Rome and began a double life in selling supposed magical artifacts and relics such as necklaces, talismans, paintings and other objects. He then met and married Lorenza Seraphina Feliciani in 1768, then a young 17-year-old girl, at the age of 25. Upon going to London, it was where Balsamo adopted the moniker of "Count Alessandro di Cagliostro" and started growing in fame by traveling to nations across Europe, including Russia, Poland-Lithuania, the entities within the Holy Roman Empire, Austria and France. The name of Cagliostro became so well-known for his magic arts, occultism and psychic healing, where at point he was recommended as a physician for American Founding Father Benjamin Franklin during his visit in Paris. In 1777, he took the alias of "Joseph Cagliostro" to become a Freemason and created the Egyptian Rite of the Freemasons. In 1785, he was accused being part of the Affair of the Diamond Necklace that involved the Austria-born French queen-consort Marie Antoinette and imprisoned in the Bastille for nine months, but was acquitted after no evidence was found against him, yet was nevertheless thrown out of the country. After moving back to Britain, Theveneau de Morande accused Cagliostro of being Giuseppe Balsamo in the past but the latter denied his claims. After departing England once again for Rome, where the Inquisition was still in effect and Freemasons were seen as heretics by the Vatican, on December 27, 1789, he was arrested and imprisoned for life in Forte di San Leo, where he died on August 26, 1795, at the age of 54.

In the Mahou Kaiju Series, during his lifetime, Cagliostro spiritually came in contact with an unknown entity known as the God of the Unknown Star (異星の神) that revealed to him knowledge and secrets of the world and the multiverse. On August 26, 1795, he performed a ritual that allowed him to escape prison and fake his death, making everyone believe he died in prison. He joined in the God's ranks as the last of its six Proselytes , acting as its Count (伯爵). He is described as one of the three Proselytes, along with the Doctor  and the Demon-God , tasked to "aid" the survivors of humanity, specifically the Resistance of Steel  that are fighting the Brain Flayers  in the post-apocalyptic Future Era a thousand years passed from the present day.

At the some point, prior to the time-skip arc in the Series, his physical vessel was destroyed and his soul was turned into a spiritual virus due to the machinations of the fellow Proselytes, the Evil Avatar , who saw him as a "ferocious and senseless false soul worthy of the worst of the Underworld Legion". (凶猛かつ分別のきかぬ、魔界覇軍の最凶の一人に相応しい偽りの魂) During the Timeless Traveler Tatsurou Akiyama 's travels across time, Cagliostro's soul somehow entered the emotionally vulnerable mind of the time-severed wandering Taimanin. And during the events of Daikaiju Future Fight: Requiem Recollections, Cagliostro posed as one of the Twelve Avatars of Vengeance  (十二の復讐の化身), beings that dwell within the psyches of vulnerable broken human beings, and sought to hijack the Count of Monte Cristo 's plan to turn Tatsurou into the strongest Avatar of Vengeance through breaking him further and exploiting his past tragedies, and then use him to resurrect himself with a new physical vessel.
