Description I put this under photomaniputlation because I used a photograph for the base, but there is nothing left of the photograph, the entire thing was repainted.

I would normally paint everything from scratch, but the deadline was very short and the client was aware of the technique I would then use and the price was adjusted accordingly.

So much hair!!! Good thing its my favourite thing to paint!

so it's basicly a paintover...still... you did wonders with the hair/fur ( I really don't know what to call it... hair or fur )

well not much to critick here... everything looks sound and even though I do not like that particulare species of dogs... they sure do look cute...

Take care and keep up the great artwork...

well yes and no... When I opened the photo workfile, I applied heavey blurring and wet paint effects to take away all detail so that all I'm left with is flat, smudged, blurry shapes and a few colours. I did this so that I didn't have to fuss finding their outlines and shapes. I then painted over the "base" to then add lighting, colouring and details, like I would any other painting. So did I draw it? no. Did I paint it? yes.

I don't like this method, but for the commission (which I had an evening and morning to do) demanded that I find a quicker method, I gave the client samples and told her about the technique I was going to use, and brought down my pricing accordingly. If I had to draw this from scratch with such limited time, I think I would have charged quite a bit more...

indeed, I too feal tempted to resort to such technicks when faced with time limits. not that I'm faced with them very ofthen, at least not in art. Still it's a very nice depiction and considering the methode you described ( wich is different from that wich I imagined ) you did remarcably well. The expretions on those critters is amaising. A job well done. Keep it up ( and wow... only 1 day... wish I could complete something in such short a time ).

I was so intimidated by doing this commision! I'm so glad you like the expressions as doing people's pets is always a challenge. The owners know each dogs character and faces so well, I had to make sure each one was represented right!

Awwww, look at the fuzzy little buggers XD. I don't think I would be able to stand doing that much hair and my animation lecturer would probably choke if he saw all of it XD.

As you can imagine we are supposed to keep hair rather simple down here . Great work though, really lifelike.

well, I would have guessed that animators dislike doing hair... it's probably almost as difficult as animating water. I do however admire well animated hair though... 'Spirit' comes to mind, some of the scene's were really done well, as well as 'Sinbad's' villian character. They animated her hair like it flowed under water! was so good!

*notices I have watched too much disney cartoons...*

ahem... I'm glad you like it.

I've animated water all ready, its actually much easier once you examine it closely and depending on what physics you are applying. Hair is just a pain, always trying to simplify it.

Eris' hair in Sinbad was my favourite. It's what we call moving seaweed . Well there is a lot of Disney to watch.
