Since the widespread adoption of Faster-Than-Light that led to expansion of humans from Terra, the need for specialists to assess the planet's wildlife for both suitability and natural phenomenon studies has become more apparent. While the scientific expedition has been done by business enterprises and academic institutions, Terran Republic would sponsor programs for scientific surveys in the newly discovered areas of space. Whether for prospecting new resource deposits or cataloguing local wildlife, scientists would often work outside of their laboratories with various equipment to aid in their studies.
The individual here is a newly employed scientist who was graduated in Biology and Zoology degrees from a well-known Terran university, which also offered her a chance to be part of their exploration programs once she graduated. Her head gear allow her to scan for wildlife and wireless linked towards the wrist console--which also has a handheld device docked into it as a means to relay to headgear from it--to allow manipulation of scanner and lens focus. As she was employed on the surface of a hot tropical planet, she wore short pants and a long-sleeve light shirt for such occassion. Her shoes also have temperature control to allow her feet to adjust well in any climates she was employed in. Due to the small size of the badge, here is her badge data I wrote up;
