Oh my gosh. I seem to deal with that all the time. It gets even worse when they know you want something that they have, so they're just dangling it in your face.
"I wish I could speak Russian!"
"Oh, IIIIIII've been learning it for three years, blah blah blah."
"My dream is to meet Walter Koenig!"
"Oh, IIIIII've met him a couple times at conventions. He's very nice, blah blah blah."
Those are two that I've actually dealt with here on dA in the past. :/ But I've gotten both of them more than once.

Lmao, the language thing. I've gotten that in the past with Japanese. I used to be (like most of us internet people) in a Japanese class, and I was pretty good with the writing until I stopped studying.
So sometimes people will post about Japanese writing, etc, and I'll be like
"Oh, lol, I used to be really good at hirigana, not so much with katakana, I really hated it!" Or something along those lines, and then someone (sometimes more than one person) will chime in with "LOL! I MEMORIZED BOTH ALPHABETTS." Lol, good for you.
Really, I think it's something to do with lack of self confidence. These people find it neccisary to assert that they know certain things to make up for their deficits in other areas.
People like this need to grow a pair and stop being so obnoxious, nobody cares if you can speak Japanese. Unless your mommy reads your posts??
