That's the southern bit of Arran with the snow. From here I can see Arran, the mainland, Ireland, Islay and Jura, and they all have snow on them. We have no snow here, only ice. Ice that won't go away. It's impossible to get up into the forestry or to stray far away from a main road because of it

There was a local farmer here skating in one of his fields t'other day. I would have liked to have taken his picture, but I missed it

The news over here is full of stories about the snow in the UK. You are having a winter of epic proportions and we only have a few inches of snow and it's relatively mild, at least in our part of the country. Leave it to me to pick THIS year to visit in the winter.

Well, (and I know you are going to scoff at this)yesterday I drove to work at minus 7. I know that's not as cold as Canada during the winter but you still wouldn't like to become locked out in your underwear in it

It's cold enough and not much warmer than here. We are hovering around the -5 to -10 range. It's actually supposed to rain here next week.

I saw on the news that it was -22'c somewhere in the UK. Now that is damn cold especially for people who are not equipped for it.

I'm glad we didn't decide on a quick trip to Florida for some golf because it is freezing there as well and that would have been a big waste of money.

Yes for sure, we almost never have a winter where we see anything above zero from Dec. to March. We are getting away fairly easily this year, at least in my little part of the country.

I'm hoping that you'll be in the middle of an early spring by the time we arrive. but I'm not counting on it.

But I expect that you see colder temperatures than -7 on a regualar basis? We sometimes have winters where it never drops below 0. I'm not say the UK is a tropical paradise or anything like that, but we are experiencing an unusually long period of below freezing weather.

The minus 22 was at small place in (I think) north east Scotland, I forget the name. Apparently they hold the record for the lowest UK temperature of -27 and they are expected to beat that this weekend!
