Description For an original story/world-building project I've been dicking with for the past two months or so, about 4 knights who have been through war, how life had changed for them (or hadn't changed) afterward, and then how they react when they are asked to save the world a final time.

Inspired strongly by the works of Evan Dahm.

Gar (in the front) is a soldier who became a hero after the war. Not something as completely appreciated as you would think.

Building a portfolio around developing this idea, and this is the first full-color illustrated scene I've done of the story. I liked it.

If he has no mouth, how does he talk? Is he the same species as the other characters?

Gar has a mouth--it was more of an artistic choice to not draw it in, but Gar's species has a snout like an anteater in a sense; the mouth is at the tip. Mostly cuz I thought it'd be kind of creepy to draw it XDD

Anyroad, specially, Gar isn't the same as the rest of the "fellowship," but Rijal and Gar come from closely related species, which are the dominant groups seen living in the mountain base/grass plain areas of Nandau (Which also happens to be the areas most favored by colonizers, which is why Rijal and Gar both wear more Western armor). Dab-di (who I have yet to draw fully, but I'll get that done on Monday) and Eskris, the tree giant come from distantly related species that reside mostly in forests, Dab-di from the low forests, Eskris from the high.

And there's one more Knight that hasn't been shown yet either named Laphu, which a sort of reptilian creature, which is actually the species of the first colonizers. I guess I went for a sort of Lord of the Rings approach and wanted the main Races to be depicted by the group they chose to save the world and all that fun junk.

If you haven't checked out his stuff, and you like fantasy and really really superb world building and storytelling, I cannot recommend him highly enough. He's brilliant.

A nice picture for the start of a interesting project... There is a lot of interesting stuff you can illustrate with those ideas: after-wars traumas, flashbacks, personality disorder, union, friendship...
Looking forward to it !
