So this is actually not a painting? i was so sure that it was when i first saw the picture!
Very cool and almost confusing to figure out how it was done.

Thanks!
Yeah, it's hard to explain, that's why the description box is so pathetic on this one. But uh, basically it's 3D, and the lighter parts are the closest to you, the viewer. I don't know if that helps...but if it does, you should try the project sometime, it's pretty fun and challenges the spatial negotiating part of your brain.

Eh, half of art really is the courage to start something you've never done before. Most people never try because they are scared it will look bad...but that's a risk. Thank you for the compliment!

very true, but I've actually tried to do layer-art before, with carton layers. I tried to make an airplane layer by layer and it turned out horrific unfortunately.

Heh all well that's the breaks...same thing happened to me when they made me do clay in class.

I was trying to make a futuristic looking sports car, it came out looking like a crashed Mini-Cooper.

You could have really worked the crashed mini angle though! "Yes, that was my intent!"

Did you get punished for doing a bad job? In middle school, we used to get heavily lectured about the certain failure of our lives because our art was bad... the teacher was insnane. I couldn't help but make jokes about how bad it was in class, which lightened the mood.

No not at all, i kind of scolded myself mentally back then whenever i was bad at something. The teachers and people here in Sweden are kind of passive aggressive in general, so if you act nice you get treated nicely no matter how bad your work is, and that's all over the country.
I hate being bad at anything i am bad at so i tend to avoid doing stuff i am bad at doing so that i don't get mad of myself being bad, if that makes any sense to you.
Teachers didn't really care if we were good or not, they just did what they had to do to get their salary, unfortunately.
Reflecting on what happened back then i actually wish that my teachers would have motivated me/us more, even if it would have meant more strict classes.
Not that i wish i had an insane teacher like you say you did but somewhere close to insane would have been better than the too mild one that we had.

It makes perfect sense to me. I have often felt that disappointment in myself for not being skilled at something I'm supposed to be naturally talented in.
Oh, common courtesy and manners! Sounds good to me. Where I am, usually niceness is rewarded with being walked all over like a doormat. We have a lot of lackluster teachers too unfortunately. I think they're all over the world...
Have you had any outstanding teachers that changed your life?

I had two actually, one bad and one very good one.
When i was about 11-12 years old i had a teacher who treated me bad in many kinds of ways. The worst he ever did was to call in a psychiatrist after telling my parents that he was sure that i had mental issues, it broke me down for years self esteem wise.
When i turned 16 and went from fundamental school to what i assume in America would be high school at that age, our class mentor praised me for everything i was good at and gave me constructive criticism all the time, i truly felt like he believed in me and that changed my whole view of my self and made me a whole other person in a very short period of time, i thanked him with an aged whiskey when i graduated as a thank you for everything he did for me.
How about you?
