Description  At first glance, you might not think much. They just look like Ibis-like birds with straight beaks and the size of cranes. But don't be fooled, these lesser known mythical birds are one of the most dangerous birds around. Said to be the pets of Artemis, Greek Goddess of the Hunt, and brought up by Ares, Greek God of War, these birds have bronze feathers on both their body and wings, as well as having a beak and talons of metal. They're also highly aggressive and carnivorous. Originally from the Arabian Desert, they fled to Greece when the Arabs let loose wolves to kill them. They migrated to the Stymphalus Marsh, near the town of Arcadia. Without any natural predators, they quickly multiplied and swarmed the countryside, devouring the villager's crops and flesh. They can shed their bronze feathers and rain them down on their targets. They also hold immense strength, which they used with their metal beaks and talons like spears to pierce the armor of any Greek Soldier they came across. They also had poisonous dung, which could either make any human greatly ill for 5 days if touched or killed with in 5 days if consumed. When Hercules was given is sixth labor, he was tasked to deal with these man-eating metal birds. With the help of a rattle made by Athena, Goddess of Wisdom, the birds were frightened and scattered in the air. Hercules then shot many of them using feathered arrows tipped with poisonous blood he got from the hydra, took the slain birds as proof of his success, and drove the flock to the black sea.

Note: While the design I made is basically a slightly modified version of how these birds looked (you can check for yourself), I think I did pretty okay. I at least made the beak look like it's made of metal.

It was an awesome myth. You know,  I'm starting to make my own version about Hercules' labors. I'm combine the story about Hercules rescuing Prometheus and his 6th labor with the birds of Ares together! You'll see more when it's done.
