Thank you for your suggestions. I was actually going for "coy"  and your right about the lighting. Good Lighting for portrait type photography continues to allude me, and I am always trying to refine how I light things.  It's actually the magic part that I am not getting yet.  Thanks again for your suggestions.

I think, with a little better lighting, that you hit the coy look dead on.    

What I might suggest is to look for some small lights that you can use for accenting your photos.  This doesn't have to be expensive; I have several lights that I've found at garage sales and thrift stores that I use for this as necessary.   Another piece of magic you might employ is photo-editing software.  You can get theGIMP for free, and it works extremely well for this.  Some workwitht he brightnessand contrast, and I think you could make this picture really shine!
