“In a world where comic book movies have become dark and grim, return to the superhero film full of fun, optimism, bright colors, and camp.”
The first Superman movie I’ve ever watched as a kid and it surprisingly still holds up as it did when it first came out in 1978. While there’s a few criticisms like the lack of any superhero fights or how some might say “Man Of Steel is better” despite that opinion being full of crap, it paved the way for the superhero genre to become one of the most profitable genres in Hollywood. So, without this movie, we probably wouldn’t have gotten Batman, X-Men, Spider-Man, The Marvel Cinematic Universe, or even The Ditch Continuity Cinematic Universe.
The film itself as an origin story for Clark is great and The Late Christopher Reeves is still the best actor that portrayed the character in live action.
Look, I’ll watch Smallville EVENTUALLY, okay?! I only just found out that it was on ITVX!
Everything about Clark, from his origin to his first appearance as Superman, is very well done and Richard Donner did a good job with bringing the character to life alongside Jor-El (Krypton pronunciation aside), Lois, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, and Lex Luthor. I’d be a fool to not mention the John Williams theme. That theme is the only theme for the character that I’ve heard that inspires hope and just screams “Yeah, that’s Superman!”.
All in all, this film is a great Superman movie and it’s still my second favourite film in the entire franchise. … Good luck with your film next year, James Gunn.
