Hopestar woke at dawn. She rushed out of her nest, heading straight toward the medicine den. There was something she needed to say, and to her, it was important. "Avianheart," She called, "are you awake?"
Avianheart lifted his head up to see Hopestar. He had been up with nightmares half the night. "Oh, hello Hpestar! Need anything?" He asked, stifffling a yawn. "Sorry, I'm just a bit tired."
"I needed to tell you something.... Can we go outside of camp to discuss this?" She asked. Half of her wanted to tell him he could go back to sleep, but he already knew there was something on her mind, so she had to stick to her plan.
"Sure!" He said, stretching. Whatever it was, it had to be important.
Hopestar led the way out of the camp. She sat down right at the entrance and waited for Avianheart to seat himself.
Avianheart found a comfortable spot, then sat down, curling his tail around his paws. "So, what's up?"
"Ummmmmm....." Hopestar's tail began to twitch from nervousness. "Well....... I....... Don't really know how to say it......" She turned her head away from him and looked down at the ground, blushing a little. This was a stupid idea. She couldn't tell him.... He was a medicine cat.
"It's ok... you can trust me- right?" He asked.
"That's the thing...." Hopestar mewed, "I trust you..."
The tabby closed her eyes, sighed, then opened her eyes again, looking at Avianheart. "A-Avianheart..... You are a great cat," She began, gaining a little bit of confidence, "And spending time with you.. Is really fun and it brightens up my day just to see you..... If it wasn't for you, I would have one less life."
The she-cat sighed. No going back now, she was sure from all of that, he probably already knew what was coming. "Avianheart," She mewed after a pause, "I want you to know.... That I..... I love you."
He was suprised, and his blue eyes met with her green ones. "Hopestar..." He began, then thought. "You are a smart, brilliant, and beautiful she-cat. I joined Shadowclan because of you- you gave me another chance at being able to serve and care for a clan. I feel the same way." He paused, took a deep breath, then sighed. "I don't know if now is the right time to ask you, but would you maybe... be my mate?" He asked, with a sheepish smile. "I know this is awkward for the both of us..." he said.
Hopestar was a bit shocked. She thought about what he had said for awhile. She would have loved to leap up and agree to the offer, but it wouldn't be the simple. He was a medicine cat, it would be forbidden. And she was a leader. If anyone found out, would she have to step down? Would her clan chase her out? She sighed, then stared him right in the eyes. With a smile she said, "How could I say no?" The tabby she-cat nuzzled the tom. "It will be hard, but as long as I have you, everything will be fine."
He purred. Avinheart didn't want to put his new mate at risk, but the code could never stop love. "Thanks." he said, nuzzling her.
