I've been wanting to do a piece with a Rubik's cube in it for some time, but never liked any of the ideas I had come up with. The cube has been a major part of my teenage and adult life. It has also been an object of obsession inspiring my screen name "Cubecrazy2".I still carry a cube around almost everywhere I go, as this image reflects that feeling of how I still feel after solving one.
The 6 spirits represent the 6 sides/colors on the cube. There's a lot of fun things going on here, and symbolism that I should explain...
I made the white spirit to represent the starting color I use when solving. I also made the blue guy kind of derpy to make fun of those that start with blue. This has been an ongoing joke between myself and several cube friends.
The formula that green spirit is writing happens to be the total about of combinations in the Rubik's cube. Mathematics and Color neutralists, have claimed a smaller number by taking into account rotations and reflections, but I won't go into that.
I used to compete, and theorize, but mainly now I collect and solve for fun. The cube is no longer this frustrating object to me but one that calms me down clears my mind. It's a fantastic tool that I still enjoy immensely.

yes i did i really enjoyed it walking is a killer around that place though. lol. i realy love the jokes your girlfriend was telling they were funny. and no problem i feel pround to be supportful to all artists. Haha, yeah it gets really crazy... I had to restrain myself quite a bit... I could write all day about cubes XD
I think about a year ago, someone asked me "If you're so crazy about cubes why haven't you made any pieces with cubes in them?". Ironically, I used to put a cube in almost all my old pieces but since then I decided to tone it down and focus on original characters than an object of pop culture.
I love this new piece because the cube holds almost the least amount of dominance and the focus is the characters coming out. I dunno... I really had fun with this piece.

It's cool how you fit the symbolism in and how you found a way to express how much the Rubik's cube means to you.
