I didn't really like Syndra's in-game lines and short story too much when she came out. Her login theme offered a much more interesting story in my opinion. The somewhat tragic music made me think of a story for a comic back then (that I'm never going to write, especially since the ZedxSyndra comic that came out has some pretty similar ideas about her anyway (and I'm way too lazy)).

The super short version of it is basically that she would have been banished or killed in Ionia for the threat her power posed to "balance" if the elder hadn't taken her in. He was also the only one who wasn't afraid or jealous of her, and when she killed him in rage at what she felt was a betrayal, she blamed the Ionian leaders for the way things transpired. That would have given her a different motivation than just "power, power" at least.
