What texture pack is this? I want to do my renders with a simple texture pack like this also!

Actually i read further and you said the texture pack was 'soartex'....this looks nothing like soartex's texture pack..

This pic just made me think of something, is there a mod to make shadows more realistic in minecraft?
π: 0 β©: 1
Dougydoo In reply to InternationalTCK [2011-09-14 00:49:16 +0000 UTC]
Not a mod, a render. Notice how everything is one color? Most renders are actually like this.

ah, someone should make a shadow mod for minecraft, that would look amazing!

That would be cool except 1.8 can have extreme performance differences and such even for high specs. It would be cooler if someone could make so say . . . A huge performance booster mod, or add more graphical options, etc. But yes that would be cool . . . But adding very sharp shadows with ambient(Would make sense in a way . . .) occlusion could prove to be messy.
Issue would be technical wouldn't it. Minecraft is possibly one of the lowest graphical games but still the most graphically tanking games . . .
P.S If a DX11 patch would be included(Just Tessellation in opinion is fine for me). Then THAT will be awesome, as I have a really good spec computer and performance will double or triple. But only for good computers sadly . . . Would prove really nice if most computers had it . . .
What is Tessellation(For those that don't know)?
Tessellation is basically for computer graphics makes a odd shader to polygons. It basically makes computers render less Polygons but allows for much greater polygon count.
Example: In Minecraft it renders 2 triangles per face of a block, which 2x6=12, what if it could render(Might no be possible, this could just be theory) so it would take out one polygon so it would be a 2D sqaure instead. That would make it 6 polygons now.
Without tessellation(30x30 model(= 900) so 900x12=10,800
With Tessellation:900x6=5,400
That could be in theory double the performance so 100 could = 200 one that count . . .
Wrap up: It effectively takes out "Child" polygons increasing performance by like double in theory for Minecraft but probably much greater in so say the Battlefield 3 game, etc.
OT again: Yeah . . . I just don't see it, it requires to much performance probably even for the best of computers in Minecraft's state. sorry . . .

In it's current state, right now it is pretty bad performance wise, your going to need to get people making better performance or Notch do so before this can happen. It's ok, I said CURRENT STATE. Last that I remember!

To be honest that will be tough to ewk out graphics WAY more then it is now. It may require tessellation or something, he'll need to find some more tricks and make rain and snow render WAY faster too. but a very large amount of blocks probably does suck a lot of RAM without having even close to the greatest graphics.
What I think can happen to graphics . . .
-It probably won't go past a bunch of blocks, more or less. But I think Armor could use a bit of a better look, maybe pickaxes certail tools(Add smaller blocks, etc)
-Better particle effects, definitely that, needs way more improvement. TNT shows how good Particle effects could get better.
-Maybe a water shader? But a mod already does that . . . So unless Jeb does it, not going to happen.
One thing to determine, he's not a modder, he makes the game 100% percent all the way from scratch. Modders can just change some of the classes, so it can really be tough for him to make it better performance, he's doing fine since he made the height from 128X128 to 252X252. It's a matter of being in the developer really . . .
What Notch probably feels is, make the game have better performance so modders can just go "Let's do this today, WOW (Continues working on it)." Notch is not going to make the latest and greatest graphics on a whim for god sakes. It would take years to achieve something like that.
The final Tip:Just go ask some modders to do the job. Notch IS NOT GOING TO DO THIS. He DOESN'T play with MODS AT ALL. So he does what he wants to do. A modder can go, let's do these graphics, work on it and make it have better performance then Minecraft has now. Also be realistic, modders mod to have fun and enjoy what they do, not to get swamped doing improved graphics, even though it will look awesome, because almost no one will download it . . .
