Description "Stop paddling! I need quiet! I want to sleep!"
The salmon gets annoyed at the fat one and rushes forward.
"Are you a lord?"
"Barely!" - mud stirs up.
"So, a lady then!"
This, Laikan - who doesn't know that much about himself yet, being not that old - has learned thus far: He had understood that during all those weddings that he had witnessed, the lords would behave different than the ladies did and with his soul he had always sided with the lords, who are the hunting ones, the domineering and jealous ones. Especially the jealousy he had understood quite fast. Perhaps only since he is feeling it during hunting prey. Yet, he found that hunting love seemed similarly hungry. And for knowing this hot and restless feeling, he believes to be a lord and he is happy about that. Where this happiness is coming from, he doesn't exactly know. Perhaps it's because he may be talking to a lady there who is almost as large as Mother Salmon.
"You are a lady, oh!", he says, since the carp is dozing again.
"I don't think I'm a lady", the words are coming moodily out of the big, soft mouth where even the barbels are dangling in a lethargic way.
Laikan retreats by a head's length. What else can one be if you're neither lord nor lady?

- Laikan der Lachs (Laikan: The Story Of A Salmon), Josef Wenter
