I person can be cold-hearted towards other people, but still feel very strongly about their work or interests. Just because someone lacks empathy and sincere kindness, doesn't mean they are incapable of enjoying and wanting things.

Das hast du aber haarscharf erkannt. (aber hey, so unnormal ist das gar nicht. Bei mir hÀufen sich die weißen Haare auch bereits, liegt vÀterlicherseits in der Familie. Da waren se schon alle mit 25 grau.)
