Character: Aerith Gainsborough (Yoshitaka Amano version) from Final Fantasy VII

Construction Notes:
Aerith as a personification of Mother Earth interests me very much. I've always felt Aerith's role transcends what we see of her in the game. After her death she becomes "one with the Lifestream" - a spiritual figure, a symbol of the life of the Planet. This symbolism continues in Advent Children when Kadaj and Cloud both refer to her as "Mother." It has now been several years since I constructed this costume, but looking back on it, I was very much influenced by these ruminations throughout the process. I love that this photo depicts Aerith as a protector of the Planet, though I'm sure that was never our intent when we were shooting outside in super windy, below-freezing weather!
