First test of the second pattern. It is larger than the first one, so it is more comfortable to wear with glasses.

I need to adjust the forehead shape, add venting holes and straps.

I love the look of this dark red leather. I imagine this is what I'd have used for Matteo's mask. Though it would have to be more sculpted and be a more complex pattern with more stitching to get the look needed. And It'd have a horn made of wood or some kind of bone sticking out the front. But its great to see a dark red plague doctor mask. Are the lenses off of some kind of sunglasses?

Thank you

At first I found it a bit too red (I want my next mask to be brown), but I really like this color. It makes me want to make a black and burgundy outfit   Maybe for next year ?

Yes, Matteo's mask would be quite a challenge to pattern ! Maybe that's why most plague doctors look like crows and not dragons

Yes, those are sunglasses lenses

You're welcome.

I can see this getting mistaken for brown if the lighting wasn't right. It still looks good though.

That's one of the things I like to try and do with my plague docs, where it's permitted. I like trying to get interesting colors in there, not just black robes and a white mask, which is standard. I think your costumes will stand out by using all these interesting colors.

Yeah I expect it would bem and not cheap to have made, which is why I don't have a life sized version of his mask yet. Even though I've had him for the last ten years almost. I know crows or other birds are simple, but they're also basic as heck. XD Matteo likes to be kinda "Extra" about things. I mean he wears a dragon mask and a saw blade shaped hat with intricate patterns on the brim. When you've lived for over a thousand years, you get tired of basic stuff, and need something interesting in your day.

Gotcha. Are you gonna stick with these really reflective ones or are they just filler? This is just my opinion, but I think something less shiney and reflective or tinged to a certain color would look better, like just a basic black tint to the lenses. Having that bright orange kinda gives away that they're sunglass lenses.

Thank you. Yeah I'll probably try to add some burgundy, it could be nice

I wouldn't say they are "simple". Simplier than a dragon, but not simple. The simple ones are the basic cone shaped you can find on wish with the eyes too far apart to actually see a thing. I honestly think your mask would be easier to achieve with resin (it allows to put a lot of small details and you could play with textures too), but I guess it would be possible with leather too. But, yeah, it would require some patterning work for sure !

Yep. For this mask, they are set and sewn. I also have some simple black lenses (as on the first mask), but I quite like the reflective effect. And yes, they are from glasses... what else ? I mean, there isn't a lot of options if you don't have specific equipement. Real glass is too expensive and fragile. Some people laser-cut them in acrylic. I don't have a laser machine, and I prefer the lenses to be domed. And some people handcut them in clear CD cases but I guess it must be difficult to obtain something really neat and regular... and once again, it's flat.

Plus, as I stated in my project post, one of the huge advantages of this kind of mask for me is actually the lenses. I have a severe photophobia (which kept me off of photography for five years even if it was my first passion...). I often got irritated/tired eyes + headache (sometimes even migraines) by sunny days. I just can't look at someone wearing a white shirt in the sun, or at a pool, puddles, mirrored glass, cars, or any reflective surface. Summer is just a nightmare for me. I just couldn't bear two whole days at a medieval fair in the middle of june. I already have polarizing glasses (they become black in the sun) but it is not enough. So, I'll keep on using sunglasses lenses. But don't worry, I'll also make some with simple black lenses (and i'm looking for red lenses too but the ones I saw are too light and you could see the wearer's eyes...)

And I think it adds a creepy effect when people try to stare at me but only end up staring at their own reflection
